I have not found what I am looking for at Michael's. Does anyone use a mat on a tabletop. It would give a nice flat surface to work on but I also want it scored for measuring without having to dig for my ruler all the time. Any suggestions? The mats for cutting fabric (like quilting) are very expensive and too large.
I love the cutting mat from Stampin' Up. It is slightly larger than 17 x 11 inches and has a well-marked grid in 1/8 inch increments. It is black, and the grid paper also fits on it nicely. I lay all kinds of things on it constantly to get the measurements!
Although meant to be self-healing, I do NOT cut on mine - just use it as my work surface when doing a variety of crafts.
BTW it is $15.95 in the current catalog - you can view it at the online catalog (stampinup.com) on page 184.

Thanks Gayle! Why didn't I think of looking in my catalog! My niece is a demonstrator so the mat is a quick call away. This may do it for me.
I love Splitcoast! Everyone is so encouraging and helpful.
I use a Martha Stewart i bought at Mike's with a coupon. I didn't realize how large it was until I picked it up and found that it was folded in half. I really like that it covers the entire area where I do most of my work.
I use a smaller sized Olfa cutting mat (which I also use for quilting/etc). If you want a smaller one, check out Joann's. They do carry them in some smaller sizes (like 12x18, which I think is the size I have). Online
at Joanns.com) they also show a 5.5x7.5 mat. I don't know if this one is stocked in the stores or not. It's only $3.79 (and if they have it in-store, you could use a 40 or 50% off coupon!).

I use hers, too. Mine's huge...covers most of the table! I love being able to to use my Perfect Layers without having to mess around pulling out a mat...it's right there! I do use my Stampin' Up! one too...just on a different table.
I'm still shopping around for a mat...preferably one I can slip into my traveling tote. I have been reading the reviews on the Olfa Mat. There are numerous complaints about the odor smelling like a skunk! Some say it goes away and other say they had to get rid of it because it stunk up the house. I'm pretty sensitive to foul odors. I am wondering what some of you Olfa owners have to say about that. I'm still leaning toward the S.U. mat with the pad of paper that covers it perfectly.
No, I haven't seen that one, Candy. I'll check it out as I am about to order a Scor-Pal. I've been borrowing my stampin' friend's Scor-Pal and have found it essential!
It fits perfectly in the ScorPal and makes a big difference that you don't have to keep moving your ScorPal off your workstation -- just pop the mat in and you keep working. I think you will like it.
Candy,
I'm looking at it on the website. I see it is scored but no numbers listed by inches. Does that bother you? I see also that there is a complete kit for $78 that expired on June 30. I have e-mail Scor-Pal asking if that offer is still valid. I don't have the Scor-Pal as yet but have been using my friend's.
If you buy the ScorPal, it has numbers/marks across the top and the sides so you don't need them on the mat (does that make sense)? I have been very happy with their customer service so hopefully you will be able to work something out with them. I didn't buy the "package". I bought the ScorPal in December and then added the mat. In case you don't know, they have an ezine on their website that has tons of projects with instructions. I think the next edition comes out some time this month.
Oh, I like that idea. I signed up for their newsletter. Will I be receiving their project ideas that way? I didn't ask for the html...only the read only.
BTW...I bought the whole enchilada! The sale price is now $65.00 + shipping.
Mat, 3 rolls of two-sided sticky tape (in different sizes), the Scor-Pal, the tote...and may have included one or two other items. Why not go take a look? I have e-mailed my stamping buddies about the kit. I bet there will be a few sales from G.V. AZ on their order board soon!
Thanks, Mary Eileen! I was reading two different offers, one of which expired on June 30...guess I was so excited I just assumed the inclusion of products was identical. Now I have to order the mat! Yikes!
I just called Scor-Pal at their toll-free number and had a great conversation with Diana - creator of the Scor-Pal. I changed my order with no problem. I ordered the Scor-Pal Super Deluxe package for $78 + shipping.
Apparently this price is good thru July 4. It includes: Scor-Pal, Scor-Tote, extra Scor-Tool, 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" tape, Scor-Mat, and a glitter clean-up cloth. If you're interested go to the website at www.scor-pal.com
