Rubber coming off of SU stamps
First of all, let me make it clear that I am not trying to complain about SU. They have been extremely helpful, and have exchanged the stamps for me.
This post is because I'm curious... Am I the only one having this problem?
I have had problems with 3 sets that I ordered from the 2008 Fall-Winter catalog. I use my stamps a few times and then one time when I'm cleaning them, the rubber starts to come off of the gray foam. I've been a costumer for over 10 years and I may have had the problem once before with a very small flower, but that was it. Then, all 3... one after the other.
I'm wondering if SU changed the glue they use, or maybe the die cutting has something to do with it? Just wondering...
So, Am I alone or not?
Thanks!

I've had that happen to me also with the die cut sets....thought it was just me! It's not been all the stamps in that set...but one or two of them. Will have to make sure I keep an eye on those! Thanks for bringing this up. Maggi
Are they getting overly wet when cleaning? I've had it happen with a few stamp sets, but I can't recall if they were SU or not. I'd just take some rubber cement and fix it. I would let SU know though too, espcecially if you're not the only one having the problem. Hope you get it worked out!
I have also had that happen with small die-cut stamps. They can be fixed with rubber cement. If it's happening to a lot of your stamps, please let your demo know.

It has happened with one stamp in each set. As I said, SU took care of it, and sent me new ones. I would have fix them with rubber cement, but I thought that they need to know. My though was that if I fix them and don't tell them, they won't know that there is a problem.

I had this happen with several sets my mom just bought a month ago - it happened when I was mounting them - right out of the box...I wondered if anyone else was having this problem too. Thanks for the info!
I had that problem with the flower in the Just Buzzin' By stamp set. Also had the pad from my new Artichoke ink pad unglued but I just hot glued that back down & I haven't used it since I did that so I'm hoping it stayed glued down. I guess I'll see if it worked the next time I use it.
I've had the same problem with the Inspired by Nature set. The first time I tried to use both the flower and grass stamps, they came off the cushion in several places. There just isn't any sticky on the cushion when you touch it. I finally took them off the cushion and use them with tack 'n peel on an acrylic block.
I've had the same problem. With this past catalog, they made some changes. The foam isn't as thick and they are not using the same glue. I recently umounted all of my SU stamps and there was a huge difference. The newer stamps came right off of the block and foam when I didn't want them to. Now when I'm using them, The foam falls completely off.
I've only had it happen with really small pieces. I've had Inspired by Nature since I got it last year at the SU! Convention and I haven't had any problems with it...so strange!!! And I've certainly never have it happen straight out of the box - SU!'s support is great so get those stamps out and use them within the 90 days so it isn't even a problem, then contact your demo and get it fixed if there is an issue!!! I haven't tried the rubber cement (I just pressed harder to readhere the stamp to the foam and didn't have an issue since) but have heard to not use Crystal effects so I'm glad someone else said that!

Are you rubbing it on the cleaning pad too hard. It doesn't take a lot to get it off. JMO Granted the dye based inks are worse but a cleaner helps on them.
The reason I ask is that I've used their stamps since 1996 and never had a problem. But some have had trouble with markers and mine are still soupy. Not sure what I'm doing right but maybe I better keep it up.
Good luck!

I had this happen with a set or two from that same catalog. Several stamps from the Snow Swirled set started to come off - the rubber from the foam. On the advice of my demo, I used the 2-way glue pen to get glue in there and let it sit overnight. Haven't had any problems since.

Yikes! Me too! Never had any problems like this before; and yes, they were all the die-cut stamps.
The happy birthday stamp from the All Holidays set came apart on me when I was cleaning it a couple of days ago. It seemed as if the sticky stuff just disappeared on both the stamp and the foam. I used some 2-way glue to put it back together. My demo is contacting SU about it. I've only used it about 6 times since I got the set in March.
The stamp/block kept falling on it's side in the box, so now I make sure those long, skinny stamps are secure in their box or even stored upside down.
This is the kind of thing you DEFINITELY want to bring up with your demo or, failing that, SU itself. It isn't a complaint to let them know about a defect. I wonder if something in the diecutting process meant that they had to adjust the depth of the foam or the type of glue...I don't know anything about it, but it does seem a little coincidental with the timing of the dicutting and these issues coming up...
Whatever, do let your demo know when things like this happen. S/he will be happy to help.
I've had a few come off the blocks, too. I've had the most trouble with my personalized stamp for the back of my cards. I just used some extra foam from a new stamp set that I hadn't mounted to replace the foam. I just peeled the rubber part off of the old stamp and the new piece of 'spare' rubber. Then I stuck it down on the new foam and cut it out again. I haven't had any problems since. I think they tend to get a little bit wet and then the sticky goes away. Thanks for the info about not using CE...I've done that, too! Also, I noticed that my stamps were more likely to come off when I didn't have the cleaning pad wet enough with mist. Just a thought....
I have the most trouble with stems or strings on balloons. I just use my mono adhesive and it stays puts. And I agree, most of the problem is agressive stamp cleaners. I have mentioned to my classes, If the stamp is skinny to clean with the length, not across.

Thanks for all your replies.
Just to answer a few of your questions...
-I have been buying and using SU stamps since the 90's and haven't had that problem until the last few months.
-Yes, my scrubbing pad is wet.
-No, I don't think that I'm being too aggressive when I clean them.
-I know that I can fix them, but I think that SU needs to know that there is a problem.
SU has replaced all 3 sets, so I agree that costumer service is great, but it is a pain to have to keep replacing them and right now I just had the same problem again with one of the sets that was a replacement.
I'm just very frustrated!

I am sorry you have had so much trouble! As I read this, I kept thinking back on something I heard a long time ago from a SU demo.
You can put the stamp in the microwave for like 5 or 10 seconds. This heats up the glue and reactivates it. I remember fixing a SU stamp that way before.....It also works if you place the stamp incorrectly on the wood - I have been know to have a crooked one here and there and that fixes them right up!
