I dropped my ATG dispenser last night, on my driveway. The clear plastic cover popped off, and I thought it would be ok...but NOOOOOOOO, it broke at the hinges. I am so bummed! I don't think it can be fixed, but I'll see if I can creatively manage a patch job....I just wanted to whine to people who would understand a little better than DH!
OK, I'm done whining now. I am assuming it will still work without the cover....but it'll look weird.
Maybe you can use colorful duct tape as a 'hinge' and add cute stickers to the cover to disguise the repair job. My daughter is always laughing/teasing me - 'Okay, Mom how are you going to 'adapt' this ___ to use for your purpose?'
As long as the actual mechanism (the tape feeding) didn't break, you should still be able to use the ATG, right? I would be so upset if my ATG got completely broken since it is the way I apply adhesive most often. Learn that this method is way less costly than the little adhesive applicators. Spent(?) almost $70.00 my first 6 months of cardmaking!
I am in the market for a new ATG gun. Bought mine at a craft show and it is evidently an off brand. I did find tape to fit the spool, but I have to waste about 1/3 of the roll to get it small enough to fit inside the gun.
Anyone know of a reasonable place to buy a gun and tape?
I bought my Broken Baby at www.framingsupplies.com. I have purchased tape from The Tape Depot (ebay) and it's quite a bit cheaper than the 3M tape; in my opinion, it works just as well, if not a bit better. I see "copycats" around, but I am comfortable with the
3M ATG and will continue with it.
OH no...I am so sorry that happened..I would be lost without mine...I was thinking that if you hold a memorial service you might get enough donations to replace it...lol
blessings.

LOL! My old SNAILs can give the euglogy...with maybe a few words from
brad(s)....
I also dropped mine and broke the hinges. I use to large rubber bands to hold the door on. I think it will work without it but I like to protect the tape. It does not look too elegant but it does work.
Why not just use bandaids? You could get cute little ones with Hello Kitty and stuff? Then it will be obvious it has had a rough time and received a few boo boo's- it's a tough sport/hobby no?

LOL! Great idea. I will play with it until tomorrow--and if I don't like the attempted fix, I am getting another one at framingsupplies.com. and not feeling badly about it. Enough putzing around with the Injured Baby!
I broke my hinges too, but mine actually stays together when I click the cover back into place. It's just when I remove the cover - it comes all the way off instead of hinging open. Good luck!

Yeah, that's how mine has ended up too. I know myself....and how messy/chaotic my studio can be....and I KNOW that I would lose the plastic cover when I removed it to put in a new roll of tape. I'd put it down, it would get buried under "something", and it would be Gone Forever.
It's nice to know I am not the only klutzy crafter out there...
You don't actually need the dispenser to use the tape. I know..."heresy," lol! But in the event you really break yours (or got a roll of tape bigger than your dispenser can hold), it's a simple matter to use the roll by itself.
The right-handed approach: Hold the roll so the tape comes off the top facing left. Separate the liner (on the top) from the adhesive a bit and rest the adhesive at the beginning of where you want it to go. I go right to left. Start rolling while pulling the liner away. When I get to the end of where I want the adhesive, I just break it off. Tear away all the excess liner paper, leaving enough to extend past the adhesive a half inch or so, just to protect it from dust.
It's that simple! I used it this way for years before breaking down and splurging on a dispenser. I still use it this way with the 1/4" rolls of tape. I have an adapter for my dispenser, but it's just easier to grab the skinny roll and go with it than it is to take out the 1/2", fiddle with the adapter, and switch them out.
