Default Regular Sizzix or New Sidekick??

I am off to Michael's today to purchase either the regular Sizzix or the new Sidekick. I don't know which one to get. I know the Sidekick can only work with the Sizzlets.

I don't know how much die-cutting I will do, so I don't want to invest alot of money, but I don't want to get the Sidekick now and later decide I need the Sizzix.

Right now, I only see me needing the tag dies and I found a cute set of Sizzlet tag dies yesterday.

Are there any box or pillar/box dies for the Sizzix? That may be the deciding factor.

Thank you for any help and advice for a die-cutting newbie!

Merrie

Default Regular Sizzix or New Sidekick??

Hi Merrie!
I just read your post, and I have both the Sizzix and Sidekick! I love the Sizzix more because I can get larger tag dies, and I'm actually waiting for my order from Sizzix with the new dies (charms, hinges, and ribbon belt buckles). I love the Sidekick for the cute tiny tags mostly, and sometimes the small alphabets. Check out www.sizzix.com to see the newest dies for both the Sizzix and Sidekick. You'll probably be more happy with the Sizzix, 'cause you can buy the adapter for it and cut the Sizzlets too. Good luck and happy shopping!!

for versatility sizzix is the way to go! Once you start with yours you'll get addicted.

I don't have a lot of the specialty dies but I have 3 tag sets, an eyelet washer set that is FABULOUS and a set of squares and circles that are perfect for layers (each die has four sizes!) With those basics it is AMAZING what I have been able to do and how easy it is.

I want the sizzlets tag set and converter too, just waiting for AC Moore's next sale! I definately recommend the sizzix (but I haven't used the sidekick)

I went to the Archivers demo yesterday and they had the purple rolling cutter the sidekick and the sizzix, the first two were nice since they are a little more carryable in your craft bag, but they did take a little muscle to run through and I think the best part was that you can use any of your brass templates and a lot more variety of die cuts in the actual sizzix than the 2 smaller ones. And the big one still should be fairly carryable -

Thanks, guys. I'm off to check out the Sizzix website, but I think I'll just get the regular machine. With a 50% coupon today, I can't pass up the deal. I just hope that I will get my money's worth out of it.

Addicted2stamps- is the eylet washer set things that you put under eyelets on your projects? Also, NSR, I'm pretty familiar with Norfolk. My parents were raised in Suffolk, so we've spent a lot of time visiting since I was a kid. And I went to ODU.

Thanks again for the help!

Yep the eyelet washers are things you put under and eyelet. But I've actually used it without an eyelet too. Here is a sample:

Sizzix has a wonderful website! And you can see all of their dies online. That's how I found out about the washers.

Warning: the sizzix is extremely heavy! but it is well worth it! I think you'll be very happy with it!!!

Happy shopping!

I have both the regular Sizzix maching and the Side Kick & LOVE the Side Kick for Sizzlits. It's just the right amount of pressure and makes the cut every time. I'm glad I got it.

Has anyone seen those eyelet washer things at Michael's? I haven't but maybe it's just my area.

TIA.

I'm home from Michael's with my new Sizzix machine! I also bought one of the tag dies (that has 3 sizes of tags.) I'm tickled with my purchase and I'm going to get the converter for it soon.

Thanks for the help, ladies. I just wish they had box dies for it. Maybe soon.

Have a great Monday,
Merrie

I did find the eyelet washers at AC Moore. It seems like my Micheals doesn't have as good of a sizzix area.

Congratulations Merrie! can't wait to see your creations! Isn't that bad boy heavy?!?!?! but I love it anyway!

It's a sizzix brand die. I got it at AC Moore but you can also order them online if you can't find it at your local craft store. On an earlier post I added a link to a card of mine using one if you want to see what it looks like. I actually didn't used an eyelet, just the washer and it still works beautifully!

If you get a Sidekick please be sure to try it out and save your receipt. My sister & I won one from our local Scarpbook store for making Valentine's to donate (just luck, wasn't the # or that they were great) and we tried one night & worked great - so excited. Next day it would not roll thru. Took back to the store. She tried - zipped right thru. How stupid did i feel. Had her try again - no go, again and again. Finally got out another one & tried three times and worked each time.. Don't know what the problem is/was, but a little ring fell out.
As a friend said - maybe is only good for once a day!
Anyway - we like it (have a regular Sizzix too), but weren't happy when it failed so quickly
