Default Refilling a Wink of Stella glitter marker

Has anyone tried this? I think I saw someone somewhere indicating that you can extend the life of a Wink of Stella marker by adding water......But I saw on Youtube where the Frugal Crafter uses Future Floor polish and fine glitter. Any experience with either of these ideas?

The 'water' idea that I know about came from Jennifer McGuire. I haven't needed to try this yet, but if it works for Jennifer McGuire, that's good enough for me Jennifer is 'reactivating' rather than refilling.

Excerpt from Jennifer's blog @ 2 Videos: Marker Watercolor + Release Close-Up + GIVEAWAY - Jennifer McGuire Ink (the paragraph above the deer card):
"Here’s a cool tip: I found that you can reactivate your Wink of Stella marker when the liquid of the marker runs out by adding water to the shimmer that is still inside. Woot! Perfect for this watercolor technique."

I have added water to my clear marker and it works fine.

For the amount of frustration that I think would come with floor polish and glitter, I'd just buy a new pen.

Thanks everyone - I will try to reactivate it with water. Jennifer is my hero and I agree that if it works for her, it is worth trying -

I added water to mine and it gave it a second life. So easy to do and got my idea from Jennifer.

How did you add the water? I couldn't figure out how to remove the black piece from the top of the barrel. Thanks!

Just twist off the brush part to add water to the barrel.

The part I had trouble with was removing the black cap so that I could add water. But then I saw how France Martin did it in one of her videos: she "grabbed" it with her paper snips and pulled it off. I was able to get them out that way. I refilled two clear WOS pens that were running out, and it seems to have worked well.

I had tried using Future floor polish a long time ago. I filled a water brush with it so I could use my pearl ex powder like paint. The brush ended up being glued stiff, I had to toss it. After that, I decided to stick with water-based mediums.

I didn't even bother taking off the black part. I just put a little water in my cupped hand, squeezed the barrel, and let the water get sucked into the pen. Seemed to work fine.

does it not need some sort of glue in the mixture to make the glitter stick? I bought 2 and can't find either in my messy craft room so mine should last a long long time!

Could you use Iridescent Medium? I have seen some YT videos refilling the Stella pens with the medium.

I use a powder glitter to refill my Wink of Stella clear glitter marker. It's pretty pricey for what seems like a little pot of glitter, but I can guarantee you it only takes a tiny amount mixed with water, I use distilled water, and a few drops of gum arabic. I've not thought of floor polish, it may work. I used gum of arabic, because I had it on hand.
Icy Mint Glitter
I would guess I could refill my Wink of Stella marker or a water brush with a small bearing to help mix well hundreds of times, and make it sparkle even more than the original product. To be fair to Wink of Stella their product does last a long time, I just like a little more sparkle.

I was wondering if we could refill it that way. I was thinking of trying PearlEx & Gum Arabic. I like the Wink of Stella pen but I want something more sparkly too. I love your glitter idea.

I think Lindsey's Future Floor Wax is a good idea. I guess I just always use FFW for polymer clay & scale modeling. I always think of it as a sealer. I do have a water brush filled with it though for some of the rubber stamping techniques back in the day.

I know I haven't been in here forever. Thank you for all the ideas everyone. I think I need to stock up on water brushes and make several varieties of pens.

Make my own faux Wink of Stella and you can't see the difference between mine and the authentic Wink of Stella

I like the look of the Wink of Stella but I felt it was a bit pricy for me so I made my own .

I put a drop of Winsor Newton Iridescent Medium ( from Hobby Lobby) in a small plastic pallet cup I have that has a lid. The pallet cup is about the size of a silver dollar and clips on a paint palette. The pallet cup package cost $1.99 for two at HL
I add a couple of drops of distilled water and stir. I want the medium to be the consistency of & cream for coffee or tea
I apply it with a small flat paint brush
If it dries in the pallet cup I reactivate it with a little more distilled water .

The cost of the Iridescent Medium with a coupon and the pallets cups cost the same as ONE Wink of Stella marker
Works like a charm and my bottle of Iridescent medium will last a life time

Has anyone tried refilling the WoS pen with Tsukineko Sheer Shimmer Spritz? I would think that the Sparkle would work great in the clear WoS pen. I plan to try this when my WoS pen is empty - was just wondering if it had already been tried, and if so, how it worked...

I got Tsukineko Shimmer Refiller from Simon Says Stamp (2 oz bottle) Unscrewed the brush assembly, then shook the refill bottle very thoroughly (some particles had settled), then poured a little into the cap of the refill bottle. Then quickly squeezed in the sides of the barrel and filled the barrel a full half with one pinch. Replaced and refilled and reused without any mess or mixing or pulling the assembly apart.
