I have looked for Dew Drops in stores and have not been able to find them to actually see them in real life. Now I have been checking on line and am thoroughly confused. I hope some one can fill me in.
ritzcamera.com has a fairly good description. However, I am wondering if the larger bottle (it says about 600 per container) always has larger size "drops" - and the smaller container (approx. 375 items/container) the smaller size?
Do they ever come in mixed sizes?
And to try them - which would be a better variety? I know I have read that it is possible to color them but I am not sure I have the right supplies for that.
The bottle is larger. I bought the smaller bottle and I will never use all the Dew Drops that came in it...they seemly multiply overnight like bunnies! I see that they do sell a "large" Dew drop in cello packages but they are not packaged in the bottles. I must warn you...they are addictive! I have half the colors and now I see some new colors I must get....don't need 'em; just want 'em!
Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question but a suggestion for getting variety is to get together with a buddy or two and arrange a share. Even 375 is a heck of a lot in one colourway - I took part in a share with two friends and we bought maybe six bottles and just split each one three ways (so we each paid for two bottles but we got colours as if we'd bought six).
To colour them, you need alcohol ink of some sort. That could be Copic/Prismacolour/Sharpie markers or the stuff that comes in bottles. Just colour the flat side of the drop and the colour shows through. To give you an idea how it works, here's a card I made where I made the colour on the drops more intense with a Copic marker, they were a very light red to start with.
I have a couple of bottles of dew drops that have mixed colors in them, and that is enough for me. I think if you have clear dew drops you can stop there as the drop picks up the color of whatever is underneath it. But, I am not a hoarder and hate to have too much of anything around. I would rather have a little of this and a little of that than have too much of any one current "gotta have" item.
My new favorite thing is Schments from Stamping Bella. They are flat so they would mail easier than dew drops. They have clear and tons of colors in three different sizes. They are sort of like sparkly dew drops that are thinner and not bubbled at the top if that makes any sense.
That is a pretty card Joanne. Curious as to whether or not these Dew Drops require extra postage.
I'm afraid I don't know the answer for the US. Here in the UK we can have 5mm thickness for regular postage and they're fine for that as a dewdrop is about 2mm thick - that's about 1/16th of an inch so maybe you can work out from that whether it would be OK?
hi there,
Don't know if this helps but I could not find those dew drops anywhere here where I live in Canada so I read somewhere that you could make your own so I did.
First I used my 'Siltpat" non stick baking sheet and heated up my glue gun with clear glue. I dropped different sizes onto the baking sheet and it was really easy. I read that you can even colour them using a Sharpie....
Here is some cards I used them on: here and here
I just attached them with some MS glue and they worked great.

Judy, I must be missing something. I am so curious about the "Schments" that you mention from Stamping Bella. I've searched their website (as well as the rest of the internet using Yahoo) and can't find anything similiar to flat dew drops like you describe. A little help???

I am going off memory here - I *could* be wrong, but I was at CHA this summer and remember seeing new colors and larger drops. I asked about this and was told that they would be the new size - before they were tinted or something, and now the color runs clear through the drop resulting in better quality, but the new manunfacturer or process makes a larger drop so they will be phasing the small out. They had very cool names and colors.
As what she said ended up confusing me as to specific details and whys, I never wrote about it (I was there as a reporter).
Edit: I still see the old ones on their website so I am probably wrong...

I cut a piece of cheap cardstock the same size as my card, and put that on top of the card to help smooth it out so that the Dewdrops (or any other bumpy embellishments) don't get snagged in any postal machines.
And then yes, you do usually need to throw on some extra postage, too (20 cents), unless your card didn't weigh much to begin with.
Yes they do require extra Postage because it makes the envie bulky and NON machineable which means they have to be hand canceled
Thanks for all the ideas. If I can find my glue gun I might try that, too, but I am afraid it would be too hard to get even sizes.
As for postage - in the US the limit is 1/4 inch, but sometimes there is extra postage for smaller "lumps". But I just received a card that had a fairly thick rhinestone - it even wore a little hole in the envelope - and it came through with only $.44 postage. I think a lot depends on the P.O. where it is mailed. I read someplace about crimping the extra piece of cs to place over the embellishments.
I love dew Drops...but, there are so many of a set color in the bottles and they get a bit costly if you need a lot of different colors (so what girl does not need every color!)...
I did some shopping on Pink Hedge Hog, and Heidi has added a new product called
*Oregon Rain Drops*...
RUN do not walk to her site and check them out and all the colors she has at the BEST
price you want!
there are a LOT in the bottles, and I love the bottles verses any bagged
product, easier to pour out a few and put back in.They add so much to a card.
The color combinations in the bottle are so great together.

I purchased two bottles a while ago but thought it quite pricey since I knew I would never use so many of the same color. So instead of buying more bottles, I purchased a variety pack on ebay. Small quantities of many colors. They are available in various sizes of variety packs.
