Question and Vent about Sizzix Sizzlets

Have any
of you experienced this problem...
This morning I was working on a Name Frame for my sons teacher. I was using my Sizzix and the Funky Brush Sizzlets Alpha. Anyway, the darn thing will not make a clean cut of the letters and I am having to spend A LOT of time cutting the rest of the letter out. I am so unbelievably frustrated. To the point that the Sizzix and all my dies are about to be thrown out. Considering the amount of money I have spent on all these Sizzlets I am enormously disappointed. I have the converter, I am using a shim, I even pulled out a new pad to make sure that wasn't the problem.
I just ordered the BigKick (which is backordered) and I am thinking I should cancel that order and look into buying something new. These are taking all the fun out of crafting!

I had the same problem with mine. Could not for the life of me get the big Sizzix to cut the Sizzlets clean. The Sidekick was the only thing which would cut without any problems unless I was trying to cut heavy cs.

if you know someone w/ a sizzix - try it in theirs..

I had the same issue w/ my sizzlets - but they worked at the one @ the craft store I worked at.. my sizzix is one of the very first ones made - and the one in the store I used was way newer by a few years.. I'm wondering if there was a slight manufacturing change done on the newer ones somehow... they work perfectly in the sidekick... so it definately makes me wonder.

I bought some Sizzlets and at first was disappointed (only have the big, original Sizzix) then realized my cover was cracked! I take it to crops, and apparently someone tried to use another - thicker - brand in my press and broke it. Once I replaced the press, the Sizzlets worked fine. Of course, a week later I saw the Big Boss (or whatever it's called) and wish I had bought that, instead! LOL - check your press before you throw everything out. The only indication I had was a crack on the top...

No, don't cancel Big Kick! I have a Big Shot (similar to Big Kick), and think you will probably LOVE it for the same reasons I love BS!

I had the original Sizzix machine first - and had the same problem you are having with Sizzlits not cutting out clean. I asked my online scrapping friends, and on someone's recommendation, I bought the Sidekick. Then I had no more problems with Sizzlits.

Next I bought the Big Shot, and have had no problems cutting out any of my thin dies. It has the same type clear cutting pads as Sidekick (and Tag-A-Long). Since I had good results out of Sidekick, too, I believe the clear cutting pads are the secret to getting a clean cut. Though that is just my opinion.

As for the red Sizzix machine, I sold it on eBay for small change. However, I do not regret getting rid of it at all. Big Shot is lighter than it, and much more user friendly. No smashing down on the lever, just turn the crank handle, and viola! Out pops a nice die-cut. LOL

Thank you all so much for this information! I was wondering if the BK or BS would work any better. Sounds like that is the way to go.

I had the same thing happen with Monkey Tails! And just got the Big Kick for Christmas, but haven't tried them in there!! What great advice, maybe I'll get rid of my original Sizzix.

You might try moving the die over to one side or the other. I was having trouble with the new CB dies (they're skinny just like the sizzlets), and found that they worked great on the sides of the press, not so great in the middle. Can't figure out a good reason for it, but it's working for me!

Great thread Vic... I have a question.. is there a difference in base size between the Big Kick and the Big Shot? Or better asked.. which one would take bigger sheets of paper... to cut. I have never seen a BigShot, cuttlebug, or Big Kick in person... I am thinking about ditching my Original Sizzix for a roller type die cutting machine! Which one is best?

Do these newer ones cut the Sizzlets better than the original sizzix? TIA!
