My question is how to use the small cuttlebug folders (4 in a package, (animal, feeling better, love, birthday etc.) It says you can use them in an configuration.
I cannot figure out if it is possible to have the embossing smack in the center of an A2 card. When I try to place the card in the embossing folder the imprint only goes up about 1/4 of the way so that the way the image would appear in the center of the card will look very odd in terms of placement no matter the orientation of the card.
I think you can only use the folders in the corner of a card or if you emboss and then place the embossed image on the card as a cutout, not enabling straight embossing on to the card.
What I do is stick my paper in the embossing folder and then either cut out the image with a punch and then apply it to the card, or I will punch out my uchida scalloped shape and then put that in the folder and emboss on it. (Hope that made sense?)
Ok, totally thinking outside the box here, and I haven't tried this but you totally got me thinking....
What if you figure out where the design would need to be, cut a slit for the embossing folder to go through & emboss that way. Then you could either cover the cut with ribbon or whatever.
There would probably be issues with the edges of the folder embossing, but I keep seeing where you can add text weight paper to cut down on that.
Bummer! It's going to be HOURS till I get to try it out!
Actually I was just in Michelle Zindorf gallery - what an artist - and I forget what card, but she use one of the small embossing flower folder [say that fast 3 times] and she place it one way then place it the opposite way on a strip of paper and used it running down the lenght way on the card. Beautiful now I simply must have the embossing folder, and I look at it 3 times last week and couldn't quite figure out what to do with it. LOL
When I wanted to do it I cut my folder apart so it was no longer a folder, and placed it on either side of the card to emboss. I then used masking tape to reattach the two pieces. That way I am not limited as to where I can place my sentiment.

I did some Valentine cards with a small folder repeating - if I did them over I wouldn't use such heavyweight card because it did warp slightly - whereas my test piece on GP cardstock was fine.

THAT is a fantastic idea! I may just have to try that!!

What if you cut the folder apart, and re-attached it on the hinge side with a longer piece of acetate folded over, so you could extend the reach on the folder??? Then you could make it reach the center of an A2 card!

This is a brilliant idea! How would you attach the acetate to either side of the embossing folder? Maybe tape?
I have a problem with the edges of the small folders embossing around the design. Someone said something about putting some cardstock in -- how do you do that? I love the little folders but I always get the outline of the edge of the folder.

Brilliant! I think I'll try a report cover or even a page protector, cut to the size of the card. That way I can use repositionable tape to hold the card and the folder to the acetate, to keep them from slipping when I run them thru the machine. Thanks for the inspiration!!

I must be totally brain dead. Can someone describe to me just how this works? I just got a new cuttlebug and have some of the small folders but I don't understand how this is done to enable the imprint to be in the centre of the card by cutting the folder apart and using the acetate. I guess my mind doesn't visual the concept. Thank you.

As I see it, this would be a piece of acetate, or any other cardstock-like material folded to be about the same size as your card front (to form a V around the card). This material must be at least as wide as the CB mini folder you want to use. When you decide where to put the design you chose for the card front, you use double-sided,tape, or some form of temporary adhesive to attach the aligned folder pieces you have cut apart, to the extensions on the V. Then slide the card front into the sandwich, and run through the CB. Simple, right?
So, your sandwich would be, from top to bottom: top of V, top of folder, card front, bottom of folder, bottom of V. Stick all of that into your plates on the 'Bug, and voil! Embossed mini design in the middle of your card!
Now, if the CB people would just design little folders with a longer reach, you'd really have something! :-D

Thank you so much for trying to help me with this. I must be totally daft as I still cannot figure it out even with instructions! Maybe it's because I'm not terribly experienced with my CB. Does anyone have any photos of the process or a visual tutorial kind of thing. Guess I'm just a visual type person and need to 'see it' to get it. :(
I bought the folders in the attachment. I'm not sure why. I guess I thought I would be able to emboss on the corners. But there are 2 together on one folder. Aside from cutting the folders, or cutting out the embossed piece afterwards, does anyone have any ideas how to use these?

Jay has a great post on her blog, with pictures. Here's a link:
Thanks for the link! Her blog is filled with creative ideas and techniques and I'll be visiting there often.

Soooo, now you have to tell us what method you used. I assume it reached because you used a panel??
It is quite lovely!
Yes I used a panel that allowed me to get all the embossing done on one piece of cardstock, and it helped that I scalloped the bottom, so I was able to move the folder up a little more.
Hi, wondered if you got an answer as I have the same problem. There was something on the site somewhere where they used a sandwich of folded paper but I can't find it and I don't know how they layered it. Valda

I have been sitting here searching and searching and cannot find the answer to my problem. Know it must have been answered but guess I'll just ask again. When I use the small embossing folders and plan to cut out the image in a square or such shape there is always a fine line in a couple of places that looks like the paper has a small fold. This line is always right up against or running into the main image. The line is quite small but bothers me.

Some little things like that bother me, too. But in papercrafting I tell myself that these are all unique, one-of-a-kind items. Just like other artistic endeavors....sometimes the little things that bother us are not imperfections but just part of the handmade artistic process. You know, if we wanted "perfect cards" we could all just go buy them from Hallmark.
My dd knits, very well I might add. Her handknitted sweaters do not look like the ones you buy in the store. They are each unique works of art, made by hand and with love. If they have a dropped stitch or a tiny imperfection, that just shows they were not made by a machine.
I'm sure whoever gets your lovely cards will not notice the small things that bother you. We are all our worst critics.

i have seen that line also, I just ignore it - figure it is part of the process and thanks for the ideas about the small folders - I have some and was wondering why I bought them as I don't want cats in the corner!!! Helpful thread.
