I am making up a wish list for when I sign up as an SU demo, probably right after the new catty comes out. I am wondering about the SU watercolor pencils. I already have a set of 30 Bruynzeel watercolor pencils which work beautifully and think I could do without the SU ones. Do the colors in the SU watercolor pencil set match the SU ink and paper colors? If they do, then I am thinking I need to get them.
they do not. Your currrent watercolor pencils will work fine -- just blend to gt the right colors, but it would be soo much nicer if SU had a basic set that coordinated in their colors.
Once you are a demo, you'll have access to an awesome product guide, which provides this type of info.

No you don't need the pencils, but I would recommend the crayons!
I agree I would recommend SU water color crayons. They do match the SU colors. I have never regretted getting them. The ones you already have you could sell to get money to buy the SU ones.

I LOVE the watercolor wonder crayons! They do match and there are so many ways to use them. Color directly on the stamp, or color on the paper and use a waterbrush to move and blend the color, or pick up the color with your brush and paint like usual.
I have the SU pencils, too, but they are not color matched and since I have a huge set of Derwent watercolor pencils I usually reach for them instead. I found the SU pencils rather limiting for what I wanted to do and there are no good skin tone colors. I found blush blossom to be a good caucasian color in the crayons, so I found a Derwent watercolor pencil in Flesh Pink 16 that matched well and I use it for skin.
I agree that the Watercolor Crayons are a better choice than the pencils. I like that you can now buy them a color family at a time (I got them when you had to buy all 4.
Thank you, that is so helpful. I am putting the crayons on my wish list for sure! I am trying to hold out until the new catty comes out before I sign up but it is so hard!

If you decide to not wait, be sure to check the list of retiring stamps before making your selections. Also, the list of retiring accessories should be available around July 21st (I don't remember the exact date but your future upline should be able to tell you).
I adore the watercolor crayons. You can almost do no wrong with them. If you wait until after you sign up you can save 30% off your first order within the first 45 days.
I loved my watercolor pencils when I got them and colored with them all the time. I loved how I could color a small part of the image then use my blender pen to pull the color where I wanted it. I didn't like that there weren't good flesh tones, but was able to mix them to come up with something pleasing. However, since I got my full set of markers, I use those with a watercolor brush more than anything. I just color on the back of a CD and use it like a pallett. I still use my pencils when I'm in a hurry.

I'm not a big fan of crayons as they are harder to control the amount of color you apply. When I use pencils or crayon I create a pallete by coloring the pencils or crayons onto a scrap of watercolor paper. I then use my wet paintbrush to pick up the color. I also use the paper pallette to blend the colors. You can save the pallette until the next time you watercolor.
With watercolor mediums I don't worry about having the colors match SU! colors since I do so much blending. I like having a wide variety to choose from so I use watercolor paint (pots and tubes), pencils (Derwent and Prisma), and my all time favorite are Peerless papers.
