Default Prismacolor pencils!

Okay ladies...I tried them out for the first time. I am hooked. My 5 year old and I sat down and "colored" together yesterday. She colored with her crayolas and I colored with my few prismas. I love the way they color.

My question now is it it better to buy them in a set or indiviually? Also what paer works best witht hem? I rec'd the image i colored as a RAK and can't remember who it came from, but the paper was great. Thanks for your help!

I bought a set 0f 24 and now I wish I had gotten a bigger set. I've bought a few individual pencils. I love using them both with OMS and by themselves. They just color so smoothly. I use Hammermill paper - 80 lb Color Copy Cover. It has a very smooth finish. My problem when I first started was that I was using cheap cardstock with a rough finish. The smooth finish on the paper made all the difference for me. Good luck with yoursl

I, too, am a lover of the pencils. I started with a small set of 24 (or is it 16?). I didn't want to sink alot of money into a new technique before I knew if I would like it. It's better to buy them in a set, IMO. They run about a dollar and change per pencil. Dick Blick website has a big sale right now on the sets...at least 50% off. I've also seen good deals on Ebay. Plus, Hobby Lobby/Michael's will put them on sale here and there. Or, you could use a coupon.

I haven't tried OMS. I use the baby oil and love it.

Do you have the watercolor ones or the regular ones? I heard you use the blender pens for the watercolor pencils, do you also use the baby oil on them or a different kind. I don't really want to get the kind that you use gamsol on & kinda confused! thanks!:p

Default Just purchased mine!

I just purchased the set of 24 watercolor pencils (Prismacolor)..........I am going to use them today...........I know I will love them because of thier quality. I purchased a cheaper set of 12 about a month ago (different brand) and they weren't too bad but I wanted a wider range of color.......the cheaper ones were fine to work with......

Right now they have them on sale 25% off at Joanns fabrics.......and I just saw an ad for Hobby Lobby on thier website that all artists pencils are on sale also...........

I wish I would have purchased the set of 50 now........:-D

You use baby oil with the regular pencils, not the watercolors.

I love my prismas. My first box was a box of 48 at Michaels with a 50% off coupon. I should have bought the box of 120 - I love them that much. I also use them with OMS (which is Odorless Mineral Spirits, also known as gamsol - see Gamsol Magic technique). Luckily there's a great art supply store at the local art college that sells these pencils individually, and I was able to exand my collection by buying 10-15 pencils every time I was in the store - and now I do have all 120 colours.

Do I really need 20 shades of green?

Well, yes. Yes I do.

I have the regular ones. I have no clue about the whole Gamsol/baby oil thing. LOL! It just sounds too messy for me.

I use Gamsol and it's not messy. I bought it from Inky Antics. It comes in a small plastic bottle with a sponge top under the lid. You just tip the bottle over to moisten the sponge and then push your paper stump against the sponge to moisten the stump. I haven't tried baby oil - I don't think there's any in the house. I've been happy with the Gamsol.

I use sansador with my prisma premier pencils and the effect it gives is amazing. Love the way you can manipulate and move the colour around

the oil is not messy. I dip the blending stump into the hole in the oil lid...dab off any excess and color away. There's no mess in it at all.

I love my Prisma's, and I use them almost on a daily basis. I bought the set of 120 on eBay for $65 new in the package, I also picked up the set of 12 new colors on eBay as well now I have all the colors and it didn't cost me very much at all, considering that the 120 pencils cost $250 without a coupon at Miacheal's. I am still playing with the OMS, it is a learning process put I just picked up some inexpensive cs to practice on until I get good enough to use the good paper.

I've never heard of sansador - what's that? I may "need" to get some!! Where do you get it and is it another brand of OMS?
