Question Printer Ink in Stamp Pad?

So, I'm doing wedding favor tags for a friend and realize that I don't have any black reinker. We live an hour from the nearest craft supply store (over a couple of mountain passes, the gas is outrageous), so I groan in dismay when I remember that I just placed a huge SU order and now I'll need to place another order for one item!

My husband says, "You need ink? I have ink. Tons of black refill ink for an old printer." I groan again. What? Ruin my new 2-color dry pad for my Just Rite Monogram Stamper? No way hubby!

However, I told him that I would at least Google the question. Google turned up nada, so I knew I could turn to Splitcoast for help.

Has anyone attempted the above suggestion by DH? What is the difference between the printer refill and a stamp pad reinker? Dare I try it?

I don't think I would try this b/c I can't imagine that ink being archival safe.

That was one of my fears that I expressed to my husband. He needs to get me the packaging so I can check.

The printer ink I have worked with is thick--not like pen ink which is what reinkers remind me of--it is the constitency of toothpaste. It is designed to be rolled. I cannot imagine how you could get a thin enough coat on the stamp to get a clear image.

Computer printer ink isn't really ink, it is liquid toner and it will not stick to the stamp just stain it.

OK, not to nit pick, but really, how many of those favor tags are going to be saved for years upon end? Does it REALLY have to be archival?
