Default Premade card bases...

Do you use them? I have several boxes ( granted some are not stellar quality but some are nice..the not so great ones I cut up and use to layer or let my kids use )..but some are pretty nice. I have found some really really pretty ones on line and was wondering if anyone really uses them. I think for me ( and those that know me know I have a bit of a fear of designer paper)..the pretty patterend ones could possibly take some of that fear away..

Just wondering what others thought of these little things..

I will buy the white card bases with envelopes if they are on sale for a good price, otherwise I always make my own, it is cheaper that way and I can make the base out of anything I want (though I usually use white as a base, sometimes black.

I often use kraft card bases with matching kraft envelopes. They work well for photo cards, like this one.

I'm like SanJoseLady, if I find a box of blank cards and envelopes on sale, I might pick them up to use for making cards, but usually I make my own from plain white cardstock that I buy at Sams.

I will also sometimes buy notecards of any type if they are really cheap, and ditch the cards and just use the envelopes.

Usually the only time I use premade bases is if I buy 5x7 blank cards & envelopes. For some reason, its hard to find envelopes for 5x7 cards around here. And if I want black envelopes, I have to buy the set of bases & envelopes, otherwise I make my own cardbases - usually white. I'll make 20 - 30 bases at a time and have them on hand.

I use premade all the time if I can get them cheap enough. Sometimes you just need to whip up a card for an unexpected event or you need to make a bunch of cards in a hurry and these just can't be beat. I have quite a few white, cream and printed premade base cards on my blog. The third and last card on this link HERE,; The two cards on this link HERE and this card HERE, just for example.

Nothing wrong with pre-made card bases. They sure can make life easier. Uh huh....I like an easy life.

I must admit that I use them most of the time. There's a local online supplier who does them in a nice weight with a textured finish. And that card I sent you was also from a multi-pack of plain square cards, although I find them a bit light to use if there are a lot of layers. I find decorative blanks harder to use, though.

I do use them once in a while when I'm lazy and don't know what kind of card I want to make after I've already colored a stamp image. I sit there and see what color or base looks better with the front I've already made. Yup, it's backwards.

I used to use pre-made card bases almost exclusively. A Muse's old notecards got me hooked on 4bar (3.5" x 5") and 4.25" square cards. Memory Box also makes nice A2 card bases in great colors with white interiors. They make mass production of holiday cards just a little easier.

I don't buy many pre-made bases anymore because I've grown to love heavyweight cardstock, but I cut and score batches of neutral cardstock into my favorite sizes and treat them like pre-made bases.
