I have a large stamp that I'm trying to stamp all black. I have used Simon Says intense black, Momento, Stazon and SU. Non of them stamp a crisp solid black on the solid part of the stamp. Any suggestions, Cheryl
I've always gone to Brilliance when I want really good cover on a solid area...even though I only have a Dew Drop size and all my other blacks are full size. I have Graphite Black.
My suggestion would be the new Versafine Clair inkpads- Noir is the 'new' black. Without a doubt, the deepest, blackest black I've ever used, even better than the original Versafine.
One thought, if it's a very big stamp, maybe the ink is starting to dry before you stamp, 'huffing' on it before stamping might help.
Are you taking the stamp to the ink pad or putting the stamp rubber/clear side up and then inking it? I find I get better results with large stamps if I take the ink to the stamp......also, once inked, put your paper over it, another piece of scrap paper on top of that and then use a brayer and press firmly while rolling it across all layers. But you can't beat a platform for the best coverage.
If you're using a dye-based ink, you can give the inked stamp a light mist of water before you press it to the paper - that helps the ink soak into the paper a little bit. Just be careful not to get too much water, or you'll end up distorting the edges.

I agree, Versafine Clair inkpads are a step above contenders. I have Versafine Clair Nocturne and it is the deepest black Ive seen. I did not realize they have another color called Noir. Is it even more impressively deep black than Nocturne?
Before the Versafine Clair pads came into existence, my go-to, very favorite deep black ink was Versafine Onyx Black.

Hi Susy, sorry, blame my stupid brain cells! You are quite right, it is called Nocturne, not Noir. I have an annoying thing of getting a word or such in my head that is totally wrong!

Tee, hee....I do the same thing and I must say its nice to know Im not alone in that!
Its also nice to know that we are both impressed with the deep, inky blackness of Nocturne.
Ive mentiioned it before about Versafine Clairs, but not on this thread so I will repeat myself. The Clairs not only stamp cleanly, the ink does not stain clear stamps like other pigment/hybrids or dye inks. All the ink goes from the stamp to the paper, with almost nothing left on the stamp to clean off. Sweet!
Yes, I've found the stamp comes away almost totally clean. I also like the fact that you can add embossing powder 10 or more minutes after stamping, and it still sticks. I've got half a dozen colours so far, and the only one I don't recommend is the Fallen Leaves. It looks Brown on the label, but to be honest, it's just like having another Black. I'm told Pinecone is the best dark brown.

Pinecone is a delicious brown tone. Perfect for when you need a deep tone that isnt black. After Nocturne, its my favorite go-to color for sentiments.
I fell in love with Pinecone when I discovered it many years ago in Versacolor....Its a pigment ink, so it has its limitations.
When I saw that Versafine Clair had Pinecone, I ordered it hoping it was the same color as the old pigment ink and it is!!!
Thanks for the tip about Fallen Leaves, it was on my list for next time I order...it has now been scratched.
