Is it just me, or are others finding that the stuff showing up in their main feed has little or no relevance to their stated interests, ot to their searches?
I've spent three weeks now constantly deleting stuff that does not interest me, yet it takes days, sometimes weeks, before a particular subject finally vanishes.
Typical event- today my feed is FULL of Pins relating to the periodic table of Elements! Not just one or two, which I would accept as them trying to offer you other stuff, but literally dozens. Not searched anywhere on the net, not just Pinterest, for this subject, or even anything related.
Recently, I've had Quilling, crochet, Iris Folding, none of which I've searched, nor would I use.
And when you 'Hide' a Pin, it says, 'we will try to show you less like this'. Yeah, right. Well that part of the algorithm is failing.
I have Pinned 3 cards in the last month-you would think a fact like that would make it realise it's failing.
OK, rant over, lol.
I notice that I barely look at Pinterest any more. I just truly feel overwhelmed by the ads. I understand it's a business and needs to make money, but I'd pay a small fee to not look at all of the ads!
I have found that this "new" feature (which to me is the way things USED to be) is a better way to see what you want. WAY better.
Top bar...default when opening Pinterest is the "home" feed. Lots of irrelevant stuff there, even though some good stuff hides in there. There's no names or anything on that feed. It's kind of like a somewhat selective general browsing. I don't even use this very much, if at all.
Top bar...there is now a "following" feed. This has only the people you follow. I go there promptly on opening Pinterest. It's more like what Pinterest used to be. It shows the name of the person and the board they pinned to, just like the old Pinterest. There are a few (very few) promoted pins there, but again, not many.
The only issue I find with Pinterest now, since I've quit the "home" feature and gone to only the "following" page is this: If I am following anything that a person has, even one board, then every new board that they create is automatically followed for me. I've gone into quite a few people's board collection and un-followed what I really don't want to follow. That's not a huge issue for me either. I think it's always been that way.
I don't often go to Pinterest and, when I do, it's generally to search for something specific, so I don't even really look at my "feed". If something catches my eye right off I may click on it, but usually not. I guess what I'm saying is that I use Pinterest more as a search engine than any other thing...
I am also frustrated by all things mentioned here. They constantly have you upgrading for a supposedly better site, but it just Does not get better......just the opposite. It seems like I also have to scroll through lot of images to get to anything of interest........a big time waster!
I recently deleated many things as my interest changed in style of card making, and locked a few boards that were getting insane.
I am not sure if Pinterest is aware of our frustration. I may have to follow advice given here and just go to my”following “ boards.
my feed has been full of baby stuff. Never searched for baby stuff, I'm 56, Seriously like I need baby stuff!

I appreciate you giving us all an idea of how to get around this onslaught of junk on Pinterest. I know they have to have some kind of advertising to pay the bills, but I think the amount is getting ridiculous. I will go try your suggestion straight away.
Yes, Diane, I have found the same thing--discovered the "following" icon. It would have been nice if there was a notice from Pinterest that the default was home, which posts nothing you're interested in. They were sneaky about it!
The way that I see it is that "Explore" is everything recent, no personalization at all. A place to browse, if you don't mind seeing stuff that is objectionable too.
Then "Home" seems to be where they took "Explore" and personalized it for you. But it isn't directed at what you like to see, what you choose to see.
But "Following" is feed from the boards you chose to follow. Plus a little bit of paid advertising.
Maybe some people who like to browse really like the personalized browsing of the "Home" tab. Just not me.
Coming back to say that I went to Pinterest and checked out the "following" tab and got sucked into a two-hour perusal fest, which is why I stay away most of the time, lol... Much more fun than the "home" tab, though!
It's funny. In just the couple of days I switched to 'Following', having had a quick look at the Main Feed today, and all the junk has gone! The algorithm clearly spotted lack of use, lol.
Pinterest irritates me and I don't even have an account, simply because oftentimes the top results for searches lead back there instead of to actually useful pages.
Would the follow button give me only those who I have chosen to follow or them and similar boards/posts? I don't usually click the follow button, only very close friend and family and most of their tastes are very different than mine.
Yes, and it drives me nuts. It is far worse if I use the Pinterest App on my mobile phone because every 3rd pin is an ad & I pretty much stopped using Pinterest on my phone because of it - but I still get a lot of ads when I use Pinterest on my laptop. I mostly see bikinis/swimwear, shoes and makeup - and I have no Boards of my own with those topics nor follow any as I am not even remotely interested in them - so they are wasted. Maybe if they had more relevant topics according to what boards I follow, it wouldn't irritate me  I actually use Clipix for 98% of my pinning because I can have all private boards & I don't get any ads. Pinterest is still useful for searching ideas for making a card as you don't get the ads - but for general browsing, it's annoying.
It's one step forward and 2 steps back with them for sure at times. I love being able to create folders now but the ads do get annoying. Honestly I don't go in there much anymore because there is rarely anything new, just same ol stuff. Between the nothing new, too many ads, suggestions that have nothing to do with what I've EVER pinned and increasingly more inappropriate stuff, I just don't find as fun or entertaining anymore.
Thank you SO much Diane - that's a lot better! I'd got very frustrated with Pinterest recently especially with the ads. I thought I'd scream if I saw yet another ad for some weird colourful shoes that I have zero interest in! I seem to have been getting loads of clothing and footwear ads which I find puzzling as I've never searched for either on Pinterest!
sooooo, how many here are getting adds for teeth implants. These adds are stupid and do not relate to what I look at.but they get money so who cares if the people that use this app want to see the adds.
Pinterest is only looking for money now that they have a huge following.
I stopped using and deleted Pinterest a while ago because of all the reasons listed.
I don't mind some ads .. they have to make money somewhere .. but just because I follow someone's SU board does not mean I want to follow their 'wedding' board. Or their 'cool things to do in Virginia' board. Or their 'celebrities I love' board.
I just use google images if I want to find something in particular.

I too find Pinterest pins on my home feed irrelevant. I've been reporting them (mostly ads) as Spam and then block them... it clears them off for awhile.. then more pop up.
