Default Photo Glossy Paper or Glossy Paper

I have an overflow of photo glossy paper. Can this be used for card techniques that require glossy paper? Is the glossy part the same in each type of paper? It can't hurt anything to try, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

I tried using photo glossy paper for the crayon resist techniqe. It worked, not as well as when I use glossy paper though.

firequeen.....Thank You for your response. That's the kind of thing I was asking. I would like to find a use for all this photo paper, but if it won't give me the look it should with stamping (mostly resist techniques) then it's not worth it.

Thanks! Patti

One time I tried doing an emoss resist on photo paper, and my heat gun caused the finish on the paper to snap and peel.

I've never had this problem w/glossy cardstock.

It snapped so loud my DH came to see if I was ok!!

The chemical in the Photo paper does react badly with the ink so it is not recommended to use the photo glossy paper. It will peel eventually

I've had awful results testing techinques with photo paper. It will buckle, peel, and bubble when heat is applied. I only use glossy card stock never photo paper.

I would just buy some glossy paper. I love the type that Ranger makes, very shinny!

Thanks for all your responses, everyone. I guess I'll have to find another use for all my photo glossy paper, before it dries out.

I do prefer the Ranger paper (actually, it's the only brand I can find in AC Moore store). Never saw any in the Michaels stores near me.

Not worth purchasing it on-line if I do have a local source.

I've had some success with glossy photo paper and the faux linen technique. Not sure how well it shows on the photo but this card in the gallery was made that way. The same card's in this post on my blog and the picture is a bit bigger (if you click through on it) so you might get a better idea there.

Not sure how many faux linen cards you'd want to make though and it sounds like you might have a mountain of paper there! HTH a little anyway.

Yes, I have a handful to use up too..... I think it depends onthe technique and what you're going to do to the paper for the results you want. After some experimentation and talking to people, I believe that photopaper has some sort of coating on it as a preservative or whatever to hold the printer ink.... .....not so good for embossing and heat. I've tried brayering ink on and it was alright. Brayering is kind of watercolored look where the edges of the ink are blended in.
I was thinking of using Black stazon---- and letting it dry for an hour or two then trying to sponge ink on. I'll have to give it a try .
So if any one know where to get a deal on regular glossy paper. Let me know!
H TH!

I've had very good results using it for alcohol ink backgrounds. Never tried anything else on it in craft terms, apart from printing several photos and using them for dcoupage (paper tole).
