Perfect layers or not?
As I was looking through the gallery, I noticed how "perfect" some of the layers are on the cards and I was wondering how many people eyeball their layers versus using a tool like the Perfect Layers from SU?
Looking forward to hearing how folks make their layers look so professional. I would've done a poll...but I couldn't figure that out.
I have had my Perfect Layers for at least 5 years... I got mine from QVC until I saw them in the SU Catty, I thought that QVC was a sole vendor... In my opinion, this is by far, the best tool on the market. Everyone who has seen me use it has purchased it. It doesn't matter how you place your picture on the paper, you will always get a perfectly matted photo, or image. It is worth the investment...

My thoughts exactly. I've had mine from QVC as well for about 3 or 4 years, & I can't make a card or scrapbook without it!! It is so much easier (not to mention more professional looking) than eyeballing or fighting with my trimmer to get it straight.
What kind of mat do you use with the tool? I have a CM and fiskars one, and I do like the CM one, but I am thinking I need to get a GLASS mat..thoughts??
I love my Perfect Layers. Use it for almost every card. I cut on a self-healing mat. It says Helix on it. Maybe that's the brand name. I got it at Michael's. It's purple. Works like a charm for me.

I use the SU mat, but I hear the CM is fabulous. I also have a glass mat, but haven't ever thought of using it with my perfect layers! I'll have to give it a try.

I love Perfect layers - really changed my attitude about stamping. I hated cutting layers and could never get it right, but PL changed all that. I think I should marry it.
I bought my first PL from QVC when they first got them. They were exclusive to QVC back then. I love mine, I don't make cards with layers or scrap pages without using it. I have already worn out one set and had to order another. The metal piece kept coming out and I kept "super gluing" it back in. LOL After doing that about 5 times I decided I needed to order a new set, because I can't do without.
When I first purchased the PL from QVC, it came with a self healing mat and a cutting blade. That finally stopped healing itself, so I use the CM Mat... Love it becuase it is so much bigger. As far as the glass goes, I would be afraid of breaking it and I would hate the scratches in it from when I missed. I have a glass top over my dining room table and yes, I missed a few times so it does have a few scratches in it.

Art is intended to provoke an emotion from a total stranger. If youve succeeded in this, consider yourself an artist. Paper Shanks Blog. Love me or hate me, you are still talking about me
OK now..I bought it, got it out of the box, couldn't figure it out and then put it back in the box, put it in the closet and it's been sitting there a couple of years.
It is time to take it out of the box... All you have to do is butt up the ledge of the PL against what ever you are layering, and then take your blade and cut straight down the outside edge You are using the edge of the PL as your straight cut, and the inside ledge that is butted up against your picture as your layer.. Simple as that.. Each PL has I think 4 ledges for layering. This is one tool I can not live without... I hope I explained it right because I don't know what else to call the different sizes

Thanks for all the information. I went to QVC website and they have the Perfect Layers tool for 19.00 with 4.00 shipping. I think I'm going to try actually measuring my layers (rather than using my eyeball) and see if I can get better results than I'm currently getting...then I will probably end up with the Perfect Layers tool. I do love the tools!

Thanks, Debbie...I'll find it tomorrow and try it again. Thanks for the encouragement. Just what I needed..g
Debbie thx for ur reply..and no doesn't look like they do Canada..
loves ya
They do Canada! We (in the US) bought my sister and mum some scrapbooking stuff from QVC and had it shipped to Canada (spendy shipping, tho). Also, my sister's family (in Canada) ordered some frozen seafood from QVC and had it shipped to us (in the US).
Ok ok now i need a perfect layers really sounds easy to use and a definte must have. i bought a ruler at M's that can position things in the middle that i use a lot but this sounds like an addition i need thanks
Yes, QVC still has them, but when I purchased mine, it came with two PL's the mat and blade. Now it comes with just the PL's I think 3 and you have to purchase the mat & blade seperately...Which is good since many of us already have the Mat & blade.
Silly question... what do you use to cut it with? An exacto knife? Do we buy the cutting tool separately? I have an exacto type knife, but don't like it too much. The blade is too long and I don't get a good cut, it kinda wobbles!

I got the box down, opened it, tried to use it only to discover I didn't have the self healing mat. I tried using the Coluzzle mat but it didn't work so I just ordered the mat and knife from QVC. I'll keep you posted. g
I LOVE mine! I use mine with a CM mat. I bought one of the green mats (can't remember who makes it), but I didn't like it (and it had a funny smell :( )
Speaking of which, I need a new CM mat....Off to see if I can buy JUST the mat (I won the one I have with my CM cutting system)
Thanks...Glad you finally took it out of the box and gave it a try...Just to let you know, I use my CM mat. After awhile, the one that came with it sort of died... Don't worry I gave it a good burial...(LOL)
Keep me posted

I'm intrigued. Could someone explain, without being too technical, how it works and why it's better than a paper trimmer. Also, does this mean that you don't use your paper trimmer anymore?
