Default Pearl Ex powders versus Ranger Perfect Pearls

I just bought the entire collection of Pearl Ex powders to make the Pearl Mist Tim Holtz demos...........but realized he used Perfect Pearls. Is there any difference in them?

the perfect pearls have some sort of a bonding agent in them that allows them to stick to the paper permanently while the Pearl Ex powders don't.

I dont believe there is, they both use the same fixative so they should be fine... send badsherry a PM or email rubbernecker and ask them! They are PRO's!!!!

OHHH, thank you, do you know if you can get something to bond them? I just hate that I have them all and this is what they were purchased for and can't return them.

Gum arabic is the binding agent most use, to make your own mica watercolors or in a spritzer. I am not sure what the ratio is. For making a watercolor paint, it is 1 part gum arabic to 4 parts pearl ex mixed with water. I am going to guess that would work for a spray?

Another recipe calls for equal parts modge podge and water with the pearl ex.

Or use a bit of hairspray in your water... but this could yellow your paper over time.

Thanks for your help, I also emailed Tim Holtz, and he said the same thing, so hubby told me just to buy the perfect pearls instead of going through all that trouble, LOL

There are other things you can do with Pearl Ex as well so you may not want to take them back (just get both!).

Here's my favorite - Pearl Ex™ - Heated Pearls Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

Or this - Pearl Ex™ - Luminous Pearls Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

Or this - Pearl Ex™ - Melted Pearls Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

Or this - Tutorial at Splitcoaststampers

Or this - Pearl Ex™- Painted Pearls Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

Or this - Pearl Ex™- Pearly Window Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

One of my favorite ways to use them is as paint (the second to last link). I use either Future Floor Wax or Gum Arabic to make the paint.

TY for links, great techniques! Other mediums you could use to make your own "shimmerz" paint is acrylic sealer or varnish, keep in those plastic pots or jars with lids. I have also used "floating medium" you find in the decorative painting isle. It has no sheen but let's the glimmer really shine. I got real crazy once and mixed floating medium with yellow pearlex, a bit of gold and "glamour dust" glitter... really great on "candles" or any stamped image needing a warm glow.
