Hello everyone...I have a questions about the Papertrey Ink Tiny Town dies, specifically the basic house shape.
How are you supposed to get the paper out of the little shutters dies? In future releases of the dies to this set they have tiny little holes in the die that you can poke to release the paper. The original house set does not have these. I have tried everything I can think of like adding wax paper or even trying to stick tape to the back of the die and pull it out. I usually end up poking a corner with the pointy end of the Spellbinders die cleaning tool but then I always have a crease of hole in the paper.
I would really appreciate any insights on this subject. Thanks so very much. Cheers.
This is what I do when I can't get the paper out of a die because it is to intricate or small. Now I will say there was a little controversy on this board a while back (you can search for the thread) concerning if the dryer sheet would cause rust or problems with the dies but I have never had any problem with this. And sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. I hope the link works but if it doesn't just search for the Karen Burniston video titled "Ejecting Wafer Thin Dies With Dryer Sheets" on You Tube
The guy at Cheery Lynne has a video about intricate dies in which he says not to use wax paper, and I think he says it about dryer sheets as well. What he recommends is pieces of those flimsy plastic bags you get at the supermarket. I used wax paper for years because someone at Spellbinders suggested it, but the bags work better and there's no residue left on your dies like there is with wax paper or dryer sheets. Not that I'm saying this residue is anything dire, just repeating what I heard from someone who makes their living selling dies.
But bottom line I think it's ridiculous that PTI designed a die, then realized it was faulty and redesigned it and now expects people who bought the original to just deal with the flaw. I think the OP should email PTI and ask for replacements for those particular dies from the set and explain why. You never know. I know PTI has a checkered rep here on the forum, but they have twice replaced small stamps that I stupidly lost from sets, no charge. So you never know.

Like Robin said, those "flimsy plastic bags you get at the supermarket" work well. (Surprised me). I just cut out a tiny piece... the die I have, still looking for the die cut. It slipped out before I noticed.
I also saw a video recently where she put a glue dot on the end of a pencil eraser and lifted the die up using that.

Robin, PTI didn't redesign the original dies for Tiny Town. They just started adding the holes to dies that were released later.

Yes, that's exactly what I referring to. They added the holes. A redesign to address a problem. ;)!
Added: It just seems to me that if it's only the shutter die, not all the dies in the set, PTI could replace that one die.

I like the plastic bag idea. I recently used a reissued Tinsel and Tags kit set from PTI and the dies leave a gray residue on my my cardstock. People who complained about this were told to scrub their dies, etc. I didn’t feel like messing with that and the plastic bag worked to solve that also.
That bag idea was credited by the Cheery Lynne guy (I really ought to go see what his name actually is and stop calling him that) to someone on this forum! I wonder who?
