Default Paper Cutter

My MM paper cutter now gives me distressed edges when I cut paper. I took apart the blade and cleaned it, thinking I had adhesive on the blade. Now I have a clean MM paper cutter that gives me a distressed edge.

So, my question is: to those of you who have the SU Tabletop Paper Cutter (pg. 189), does the extender arm go to 12 inches? With extended use, does this paper cutter "distress" edges as well?

TIA,
Amy

I dont have the SU cutter but I do have the Creative memories paper cutter and it has the 12" arm and it also has a built in ruler for straight cuts. I have had mine for almost 5 years and it still gives me a crisp cut with no problems. Just thought i'd share my 2 cents.

The extender arm goes to 12 inches plus some. The blade is self sharpening, so it continues to give clean cuts. I have had mine 2 plus years and made many many cuts - including doing wedding invites, response cards, etc. I have been very satisfied!

The SU cutter is made by Tonic to my understanding. That's the one I own, but with the 6-inch base. I bought mine from another vendor but it's top quality. It IS self sharpening like the PP said so you don't have to worry about crinkled/torn edges. I've had mine for over a year and I can still cut razor thin slices.

I have the Tonic 12x12 cutter and the 4x6 cutter. I love them both! I have cut lots with both and they still perform great! If you are looking to buy outside of SU, watch Joann.com for a 50% off coupon. I think it's available only online from them. That's where I got both of mine.

I found it gets dull quick when I cut photos with it. Other than that...it's a great tool and I wouldn't do without it!!

I had the making memories trimmer as well, and had similar problems after a while. I just ordered the 12x12 tonic trimmer from Joanns a couple weeks ago, and so far it's awesome! I get really annoyed with cuts that don't look right or are not straight. Check out both of my blog posts on this topic: http://emilystamps.blogspot.com/2009/06/new-tools

I have a plain old office supply paper trimmer and it never distresses the edges of paper. I would love to get the SU one, but the one I have works so well, I really don't need to buy the SU one. . .

Tonic Paper Cutter....... 12 inch platform....... I love the fact it can cut the thinnest sliver with any paper.

Wad up some tin foil and cut thru it as many times as you can all along the blade to sharpen it

Hi all,
Now when you say "the Tonic" Are you only speaking of the Guillotine cutter, or also the slide cutter? I am having a horrible time with my fiskars slider... crooked cuts! But I don't think I want a Guillotine as I have no where to store it.... Help! I have seen the Slide Tonic at my LSS... Is this a good purchase?

Jennifer

Has anyone tried the the new fiskars portable rotary trimmer with the cuts on the inside of the guide??? I bought that one, but it seemed hard to make the small measurements like 1/8 on a small strip.

I've had the SU one for maybe 2 years now and no distressed edges here! I'm very pleased with it. I've gone through 5 trimmers and I think this is the last one I'll ever have to buy!

I've also got the 12" Tonic guillotine, purchased last year at Archiver's with a coupon. Love it.

My 12 inch tonic does shred. On the top of the paper I am cutting. I have to cut super slow and carefully to get a clean cut.

The checker-

Tonic has a guarantee so call/email them and see if they will replace your cutter. I had mine less than a year and the arm would not stay up so wasted paper when it fell and sliced off a corner or cut in the wrong place. I called (#608-836-447 and talked to Steve Ramsey. In my case, Mr. Ramsey said that a spring must have broken causing the arm not to stay up. The blades are supposed to be self sharpening so something is wrong. I was sent a new cutter and told to throw the other one away. He didn't even ask me to sent a copy of the receipt just said that he would have a new one sent to me. I, like others here, appreciate a company that ' stands by' its product.

Good luck
