I bought an extra nonstick oven liner (made by Chef's Planet) and decided to try using it as a non stick craft sheet ala Ranger's. It works great! It cost $13 so it's cheaper than the Ranger version but it is also larger and thicker too. The dimensions are 16 x 23 inches. Of course these liners are fantastic for the oven too.
I think a Silpat mat would also work wonderfully. I love how thick they are!
These are exactly the same as the craft sheets, and as you can tell by the price, cheaper : )

What a great idea!! Over the holidays I looked at my oven liner and realized it needed to be replaced - never occured to me I could get another one and use it for a non stick craft sheet. Thanks tons for this idea!
Okay, so why do you need a non stick craft sheet? I actually have two of those baking sheets - one never opened - but don't really know what you're talking about!

For those of you who are using them (or maybe even have both?), have you found any differences in the texture? I've considered using an old silpat, but worried that I might not like stamping on the slightly uneven surface.
@biblesistersmom: you use a craft sheet as a good all around wipeable surface to stamp or craft on so you don't ruin your table top.
Specifically, Tim Holtz uses them when he demos using Distress Inks (by Ranger). You can smear ink directly from the pad onto the craft sheet creating an ink "puddle"; using one or numerous colors at a time then you can rub your paper right into it to get an interesting background. If you go to his blog and watch some of the demo videos you will see what I mean.
You can also use a 'teflon pressing sheet' available in fabric stores. It's for pressing fuseable web (glue sheets) on fabric. Same thing...a lot cheaper than Ranger.
I found mine @ overstock.com. DH didn't grab the splat mat when he it saw here. He never found one again.:p I luv being able to use my heat gun @ my table.I had to use it my brm. plug in the lite:. I can do alcohol inks on it, it wipes off. I can wipe my glue gunk off w/ my baby wipes. Nice pad for stamping.
I t was cheaper :rolleyes:than the Ranger or the MS mat, probably thicker!!

My mom just bought a Wal Mart brand, Mainstays, flexible cutting mat for this purpose. The package includes 3, 12x15 mats. You can get them wet and just wipe off. They are very, very thin (0.1), but also sturdy enough to pick up without flopping all over the place.
She loves this new discovery and has been singing its praises to me. Here's a link, if you want to see it...
I got my oven liner a couple of years ago at Christmas Tree Shops for $5. I know they still had them there for that price over the summer. Christmas Tree Shops is a small discount chain in New England only, I believe, but if you happen to live near one, it would be worth the trip to see if they still have them. At that price you could even buy one to put in your oven, lol!

Hi, actually there is one in Yonkers NY. I got my nonstick oven mats at Tuesday Morning. They were $3 so I picked up 12 to give out as gifts to my crafting family and friends and kept a few for me. I also have the Ranger one and these are just as good.

I got mine at Christmas Tree Shop also...really cheap at $5. & it's a big one about 16 X 23 I think. I got it about 4 months ago. Love it!!!
I bought my non-stick black oven liner (16"x 23") at Walmart for $11.00 - same material but a bit thicker! No texture so it works great for stamping and inking.
I have the tuesday morning one. I almost bought the wal-mart one because its bigger than the TM one , but I didn't because it is black. I wouldn't be able to see the colors of ink , paint , etc , on it.
I bought one of these on clearance thinking it looked just like a non-stick craft sheet, but when I took it out of the package there are gaps between the material that makes up the mat -- if I hold it up to light I can see through those gaps, whereas when I hold up my non-stick craft sheet, I see no gaps.....so I didn't try it as a craft sheet. Is yours like this, too? Maybe I'll go ahead and give it a try. I like it because it is larger than the Inksentials one I already have.
