Default New wires for the Cinch

Has anyone tried the new spiral coils for the cinch...I like spiral coils, they're usually less expensive w/more color options. Just curious if anyone knows how much these will sale for.

I'm glad you posted! I didn't know they were coming out with the spiral coils. I'm excited to try them. I looked at this page and the MSRP is the same for the spiral as the o-wires. It really doesn't say the quantity in the package though.

I've never heard of this company before, but maybe it will give you an idea of what the prices will be.

How do you get the spiral wires to work on the cinch?

I'm guessing you just wind it through the holes after they are punched. I don't think the machine does it for you, but I could be wrong.

I don't have the Cinch but I downloaded the instructions ans it looks like there are 3 holes per inch, which makes it a 3:1 pitch. These people have spiral coils in lots of sizes but the only drawback is you have to order 100 at a time of the 3:1. A box of 100 1" (25mm) coils is about $45, which works out to 45 cents each. If you had someone, or several people, to split a box with you could save some money. It might not be a bad idea to check with the manufacturer to be sure of the pitch before you order, just in case. I have ordered from this place before but it's been a few years.

My Binding Supplies

I have the Bind It All, and a GBC ProClick, which is what I bought the coils for. They didn't fit the BIA but since they are plastic, with a little stretching they fit fine.

You're right, Joan. The pitch is 2:1 --2 holes per inch.

Standard spiral coils don't come in a 2:1 pitch, so WeR Memory Keepers is having them specially made. That's why the prices are so high. Standard spiral coils are much less expensive than metal wires, but 2-packs of these 2:1 coils will be the same price as 2-packs of wires because they are a non- standard pitch.

Having more binding choices makes the Cinch even more versatile, so it will be nice to have the option of both metal wires AND plastic spiral coils, as well as all the hole punching options the Cinch has! Love it!

Is there a "how to video" from WRMK on how to use the spiral coils. If not, i hope they are in the process of making one.

Default Spiral coils

It's really simple. You just put one end of the coil in the bottom hole and twirl the coil between your fingers -- If you hold the book and the coil straight, the coil will automatically find and spiral into the remaining holes (When we demo this process for the Rubicoil, we do this with our eyes closed to show how simple it is!)

After you have twirled the coil through the final hole, you just cut the coil to the size of your book with scissors (or wire snips), then pinch each end between your thumb and forefinger. This makes the diameter of the ends smaller so the coils won't spiral back out of your pages. You could also use round-nose pliers, but I just use my fingers. The ends end up looking like a little ram's horn.

You can also glue a bead on each end -- that's a fun look. If you add beads, you don't need to pinch the ends because the beads would keep the coil in place.

HTH.

I am so excited for the new spiral wires!! I saw them at CHA and knew then I had to have them!! The tote bag is awesome too but it's huge. I just keep my Cinch in it's box, for now 'til my studio is done. But, personally, I think that $2.50, roughly, isn't a bad price for the spiral wires. And I LOVE that they are in all those fun colors!

QueenofTools, do you know when you will have the coils for the Cinch in stock? Thanks.

Question

does anyone know if the spiral wires will come in smaller or larger sizes than the 1"? I would love to make a pencil cup using coasters and instead of using ribbons to connect the sides, I thought I would use the spiral wires, but think that the 1 inch may be too big. How does one figure out what size to use? thanks!

has anyone seen these out yet? I asked at my local store, but the gal who does the ordering wasn't in. they don't have them on their shelves yet, so I'm wondering if they're available.
