I have been searching for an inexpensive rotary paper trimmer for a few months to replace my beloved MM (RIP). I ruled out quite a few trimmers as I really need to have a cut at 5 1/2" that is flat on the trimmer's work surface, not just on a swing out arm and I do not need interchangeable fancy blades. Today at Michael's, I found one! Fiskars Premium Cut-line Trimmer, fairly new item, for 40% off which made it $18. Practice cuts came out great and I will report back after I cut the card stock for 100 Christmas cards.

Waiting to hear Mary Beth's comments but I was at Michael's yesterday and wanted to see what the trimmer looks like so I went to the Fiskars section. There was a sign with a "NEW" tag on the rack but they were out of the trimmer. Looks like others are trying it out too.

Are you still liking your Fiskars trimmer? I'm in the market for a new one and was curious as to how it's holding up.
I love it! I haven't had to replace a blade yet, even with doing Christmas cards by the boatload. There is a tiny guide wire along the cutting line that is very helpful when you need to trim off just a sliver. The paper-holder-down thing hold the paper tight while cutting, very straight and accurate cuts and the swing out arm to cut wider pieces snaps into place, both in and out, so you don't have it in your way. It was $20 well spend (on sale!) and I may buy another one to keep packed for crops.

I ended up buying one before Xmas and I made several Xmas cards (80 cards) and stamped a lot in January. I like it for 3 reasons.
1) My desktop trimmer is a little off and so my base and mats are sometimes off a little. I get great precise cuts with this trimmer.
2) The portable trimmers I had seen in the past did not cut 5 1/2" without an arm extension. With this one, no arms to extend out.
3) My desktop trimmer is too large to leave out on my work table. With this trimmer I can leave out and not have to get up each time I want to cut.
I have used wax paper to keep the blade sharp but it definitely is time to change the blade. Not bad with all the cards I've made.
Please wait for Mary Beth's response and recommendation. This is just my opinion and being able to keep the trimmer on my work table is just a personal preference and has nothing to do with the performance of the trimmer itself.
Oh, I guess I took too long to type Mary Beth responded. Yes I agree with her about the guidelines and the paper-holder down thing.... I like both. It's very easy to read the measurement guidelines.
Is this the trimmer you're talking about?? I need to get a new one. I have the Tonic guillotine and hate it - the blade has some kind of bur on it and it messes up all of my cards. Not being able to get a good cut really takes the motivation out of me!
I have the rotary version of that trimmer, and I like it so far (Only had it about a month or so). It's always great to see product reviews on this site. Sure beats trial and error! Thanks for the head's up!
Thanks for the feedback. I need a trimmer to take to stamp camps and this one looks like it would fit my needs. I don't think there's a perfect trimmer out there (except maybe the Genesis), but the price is right on this one for sure.
A couple of my cropping buddies have just gotten these. Although they like the way it cuts, they don't like that it doesn't fit into the smaller crop bags (which is what we all use).

Mary Beth, you little enabler, you, lol! I read this a few hours ago, printed off a 50% M's coupon and headed out to get one. I've been so frustrated with my old trimmer...it's 5 years old and just not doing a good job anymore.
Fortunately there was one in stock, so at 50% off, I now have a lovely $15 trimmer! Yeah, it's a tad bigger than the old Fiskars trimmer, but the fact that I don't have to pull out the ruler to cut 5-1/2" pieces MORE than makes up for that. Thanks so much for the input!
