I have been on the hunt for sled dies this year after getting SU Winter Wishes stamp set from the holiday catalog. I found out, after they were sold out, that Dies by Dave had made a set that coordinated with this stamp set.
Anyhoooo, I've be checking Dave's site every few days, just to see if he had decided to produce more of that particular die set. He hasn't yet, but over the weekend he added an insanely cute set of 3 sled dies. The sleds are small, med and large size and they have a woodgrain texture on the wood parts of the sled. The shape reminds me of the cute sled diecuts that SU had in a holiday kit last year.
Without further ado, here's a link to the set: Dave's Sled Dies By Dave Online Store Powered by Storenvy
Full disclosure: I ordered the set of dies the second I saw it, and no, I don't work for Dave, or even know him! I am hoping that many of you will Decide you have to have this sled set and we will get this puppy in the sold-out category so he will get it into production and mailed out in record time.
Super exciting news to share on the sled dies - I just got notice that they will be shipped out tomorrow!!!!! I was not expecting them to be available this soon since they only showed up on the web store 2 days ago. Doing the happy dance here! :o
I will try to remember to post some photos of samples of die cuts of each size of sled after the dies arrive so you can see what they look like. Squeeeeee! Excitement abounds!
These are awesome! I've been looking for sled dies as well, and just found a Memory Box die, but it wasn't "doing it for me." This set that you found with the woodgrain texture is exactly what I want. Thanks so much for sharing!
I've never ordered from Dies by Dave before, so here's hoping for a smooth transaction....
WOW! I just ordered like an hour ago, and I already got an email that my order has shipped. WOW!
Cool! If memory serves, I think the return address on my last package from him showed a Texas town. I see you are in TX, so maybe you will get yours before I get mine! Here's hoping we both get them soon...
My sled dies arrived in today's mail! They cut flawlessly and are cute as a bug.
Here is a link to a photo I took of ones I cut using chipboard. The woodgrain detail shows up nicely.
Here's a link to a photo I took of the dies, and the die cuts using regular weight cs. I also wrote the sizes of each one, if you are interested.
With regular weight cardstock I had to use an embossing pad on the paper while it was still in the dies to get a nice embossed look. I have a very "mature" Cuttlebug Version 1, that has been a workhorse forever, so it has loosened over time. I often have to add a paper shim to get deeper embossing. I would guess this would not be an issue if you have a Big Shot.
I got my sled dies yesterday and they are so cute!!!! I love that there are three different sizes and I can't wait to start cutting some out. Many thanks to you, Susy, for posting about this and enabling me! :-)

Susy - I have an older CB and I couldn't gt the woodgrain to emboss on the papers I used. Can you tell me how you used the embossing pad AFTER the paper was die cut, but before releasing them from the die? What was your order? Thanks, Diane

Here's how I achieved nice embossing when using regular weight cardstock.
I made the cut the normal way, using a C Plate on top, die facing down on cardstock, B Plate, A Plate.
After the cut was made, I flipped the sled die over, so that the cardstock still inside the die was facing up. Then placed the die on B plate, added a rubber mat on top of the upward facing die, then added another B plate. Then ran it through the Bug. The soft mat forces the cardstock into the raised emboss lines inside the dies.
If you don't have a rubber mat, try using strips of cardstock as paper shims right over the die in the manner.
Hope this works for you!
Is he still doing wafer dies? I can't seem to get into his site. I was there along time ago and he was so busy that i couldn't seem to get an order in. I SO want to purchase some of his stuff. Thanks

Yes, he is. I recently received an airplane die that I ordered a few weeks before. Dave had a big bunch of dies available at that time and sold out immediately. When that happened, he put the "closed for business right now, I'll be back when I catch up with orders" message on his storefront website.
I don't know what link you have been using to check, so I will share the one that I have used for the past few months. Here it is:
The only way I get lucky ordering dies from him to make a habit of checking the link before bed each night and first thing in the morning. It sound like a nutty thing to do, but that is the only advice I have for you. My guess is that he will be caught up in his mailings very soon, likely within the next week, and then there is usually a lull while he awaits replacement stock, etc. This is my best guess based on past experience, so take it for what it's worth! ;)
Hope you are able to get in on the next release of dies that he has.
