Default Is the new Basic Grey color from SU a must have?

Does anyone have this new color? Is it a must have or can I skip it all together. All and any opinions welcome.

I like this grey so much more than the going gray! It is darker.

I don't have it yet, but received a card with Pomegranate and the new gray, and it was stunning? It's on my next order.

Ooooooh, yes, Yes, YES!!! If you want elegant, pair it with Very Vanilla. Hot? Pair it with Purely Pom. or really any of the pinks. So Saffron is wonderful....well, you get my drift, I hope, lol! I haven't even put my pack away yet; it just sits on my desk.

Thanks for this post, Theresa! I've been pondering getting the new grey myself lately, too... it seems like one of the "hot" colors right now. I'm obsessed with adding any of the browns as a neutral on my cards, I thought grey might be a nice substitute/change. I also sometimes think black can be too harsh with other lighter colors so grey might work better for some projects. I love the idea of pairing it with pink, MSBetsyZ. I think that would look soo pretty...

I love the color combos that were suggested. Does anyone have any cards make with the color basic grey? I would love to see them!

I have the ink pad and have stamped several images for watercolor. I love that it is softer than the black. I have the paper coming in my next order which I hope will come tomorrow!!

I don't have the paper yet, but I used the ink today on a card and I really liked the effect. I stamped on very vanilla and was able to watercolour quite soon (not like with Basic Black). I think this is going to be a favourite! Can't wait till my Basic Gray paper is here!!!

I love, love, love the new Basic Gray and it definitely will remain on my must have list--I will not let this color run out! It's a great color and the ink is perfect when black is "too" dark.

Here's a card that I made with it: Kathat's Stem Silhouettes by kathat at Splitcoaststampers

Kathy that is a gorgeous card and everyone is right the gray is just stunning! I'm usually not a grey color kind of girl but it would be such a great alternative to my favorite color brown. Would love to see more cards!

If you put "baic gray" in search, you should be able to get everything that contains basic gray (either paper or ink), I think;)

I got mine Day One and I LOVE IT!!! It is a charcoal color, and is the perfect ink color when you want a dark outline but Black would be too stark. I used to use a charcoal floss for cross stitch outlining instead of black (when I could still see the teeny tiny symbols in the squares!) for the same reason. And the card stock goes with almost everything. I do think it is my new favorite SU color. YOU WANT THIS COLOR in your stash!

I love this color as well! But then again, I love grey anyway.
Has anyone noticed it staining the rubber easily? I can't seem to get mine off the rubber, but haven't tried my stazon cleaner yet. Just wondering if anyone has noticed that, or if my beloved ink pad has a defect?

I noticed it stains more than the black. I just used my Ultra clean and scrubbed a little longer. It came off. The color is beautiful for watercoloring where you don't want the stark black. I used it on this:I love these new pumpkins! by lesarapp at Splitcoaststampers I have the cardstock but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Hopefully soon as it is yummy!

In case you are looking for more samples, here are two from my gallery:

Cerise Find Joy by meerkat3 at Splitcoaststampers uses the Basic Gray ink, cardstock and taffeta ribbon.

Masked Silhouettes by meerkat3 at Splitcoaststampers uses Basic Gray ink for the oval and the sentiment.

a basic grey search brings up basic greky designer paper, much as I love that also; so then tried "going grey" to see what colors they used together, but not having much luck. The SU color combo site shows every color imaginable, but hard to visualize. Does anyone who has basic grey have time to compare that cardstock( like purely pomegranate as stated) with other cardstock to see what other colors go with
this new "basic grey" cardstock? I'm wondering about a plum and teal
combo. Not being a demo if I'm going to order it in the future need to have other cardstock to go with it. Carolyn

I'll bet your demo would be happy to show it to you and enable you. Sometimes it helps to see it in person.

This card by debbie on the thinking inking blog had me adding this color to my wishlist:

Definitely a must-have! This color gray is a trend across the board...make-up (smoky eyes), clothing, etc. I actually found a shimmer charcoal gray at Archiver's that I used in one of the DD Challenges.

I don't have any yet, but I've ordered the taffeta ribbon. My demo says it's a charcoal gray. Very elegant.

Mine will be here at the end of the week!!! I can't wait to start using it. It is a neutral color so the combos should be endless. The samples I've seen really give the cards a much softer look than basic black.

I have basic grey on my list as well. since the going grey is just too light for me. I was hoping for a darker grey this year.
