Need Purchasing Advice - Which Nestablility Sets Could You NOT Live Without?
Hello Splitcoast Community!
While I understand I am probably the LAST person on earth to FINALLY own one, I received my long awaited Sizzix Big Shot for Christmas and am itching to use it to it's fullest extent! I want to buy Nestabilities but have no idea where to start (there are SO many at this point!). So, I need all of your help...
Which Nestability sets can you absolutely NOT live without? Which ones do you get the most use out of? Do you really need to buy, say, the Large AND Small Ovals/Circles/Etc sets or will the large set alone be enough?
Just as an FYI I am mostly a card maker/paper crafter at this point and am not scrapbooking as much...
Please feel free to share your thoughts and know that I am grateful for any and all advice! Thanks Everyone!!!
I know this has been answered somewhere on a post before, but the difference between the sizes of the large circle (for example) is 1/4 inch. If you buy the small set, then you have the option of having a 1/8 inch border. That's pretty much true of all the shapes. There's also a difference between the large circles and the petitie circles: the petite ones have more scallops around the edge, and look daintier, in my opinion. My favorites are the petite circles (both sizes), the mega rectangles; i also have all the labels except for the news ones being released at CHA. My favorite labels are 1, 4 and 8. Hope this info helps. You can search the gallery for Nesties, and that might give you some idea of the ones you would use. Which ever ones you get, you're in for a LOT of fun!

Reason: misspelling
I have the Scalloped and Plain Large circles, the Scalloped and Plain Large Ovals, Scalloped and Plain Squares, Scalloped and Plain Rectangle, and Scalloped and Plain Long Rectangle.
I recently purchased the Labels 1 set which I also like and use a lot.
I have accumulated these over a period of time at sales prices and Hobby Lobby using coupons.
The first sets I started with were the Scalloped and Plain Circles and Scalloped and Plain Ovals. I still use these a lot as they seem to fit with the sizes of stamps I use most often.
I like to have the larger border for the scallops, so I can pierce them or draw little circles in the scallops as embellishments, so I like the 1/4" border and didn't feel I needed the smaller sizes for the 1/8" borders.
It's really a matter of personal preference and what you think looks best.

This is all fantastic advice, thank you! Please keep it coming!
I know that there are most likely similar threads about Nestabilities on Splitcoast but I wanted to compile this specific information in one (kind of like my own shopping list! ;)) so thank you for indulging me! Your help is very much appreciated!
Cut at Home has a coupon every month for 40% off any one Item. That is how I built up my stash. You should check them out when you go to purchase! They even have the big sets of the Large, Small, and Scalloped LG and SM in various shapes. with the coupin you save quite a bit and I thought the shipping was reasonable!
Choose carefully to start with. I jumped in and bought the scalloped ovals, circles and rectangles and although I have used them a lot I have just bought the same in the petite scallop and really do prefer them, as someone said in an earlier post they are daintier. I guess it depends on what you are using them for. I looked at the new ones coming out today and they are a really large scallop and are actually quite nice. I have many more on my wish list though. LOL.
My first purchase was the Scalloped & Classic Circles sets of 4. I love those and use them alot. But the ones I use the most are the Labels. I love Labels 1, 4 & 8 and use them alot.

Personally I use the ovals and rectangles the most. It may help to look at your stamps and see what shapes seem to fit your current stamps. When I bought them, I bought one whole set (4 units) both sizes of scallops and both sizes of standards. I use my nesties to death and love them all!
I am also new to Nesties buying my first set right before X-Mas and buying more right after X-Mas. I purchased 80% of them thru Scrapbooking Alley at a great low price and then bought 1pk of those 4/pack at Cutathome.com with a 40% off coupon. I am only 1 month into buying these but have already bought 18 packs and plain getting alot more.
So far I have to say my Labels 1,4,& 8 get used the most, followed closely with my Circles (Classic/Large 4/pk) and my petite Ovals 4/pk. I also love my double-ended tags for sediments on cards.
I love Nesties- they have changed how I do my cards- the embossing is beatiful. Good luck in making your first purchase- you won't regret it- no matter what you buy. Take the plunge!!
I cant even begin to name them...all the labels sets for sure..many of the shapes...bird, flower, butterflies...Then the regular and scalloped shapes...yikes...good luck.
Blessings
I have the complete circles set and I recently bought the ovals but I still use my circles more than my ovals. Maybe it's my images that fit circles better or maybe it's me . I would suggest getting a classic circle and it's corresponding scallop circle. If you're planning to get more then I would suggest getting the complete circle set (small and large, classic and scallop) at one go as they turn out cheaper in the long run.
In fact if you're getting any of the basic shapes and your budget allows then getting the complete set comes out very cheap.
Classic & scallop ovals (large & small). Ditto circles. Labels 1, 4 & 9 (must have another look at 8 since it's so popular here!). Cut at Home gives excellent service, and with their 40% off it's well worth keeping my order down to the flat rate overseas envelope which brings the total price down to about half of what it would cost me to buy in the UK.
My only bad purchase was a set of mega deckle rectangles, which I have used only once. Somehow the proportions never seem to fit what I want to mat.
I've been considering selling my Cricut, cartridges and accessories in order to purchase Nesties. I have a Cuttlebug - which I love for embossing - but I really like the idea of the Nesties. I've also wondered about which sets to start out with since I have the smaller Cricut and will likely get only $100 for the machine. ($100 doesn't seem to go as far as I'd like in the Nesties department. lol)
Thanks, ladies!!

As a cardmaker, I think you'll use the circles, ovals, and rectangles the most. I also have the squares, but for some reason will reach for a rectangle before a square.
Whether you go classic scallops or petite scallops is a personal choice, but I advise sticking with one style for all your shapes. What I mean is, if you get petite scallop circles, get petite scallops for your ovals, squares, rectangles, etc. when the time comes to get those. Then, if you use more than one shape in a project, your scallops will match.
If you have both the Large and the Small sets of a shape, you can layer to the 1/8". If you have only the Large or the Small set, your layers will be 1/4". This holds for both scallops and plain (non-scallops). You only need both sets if you want to layer to the 1/8".
The Labels sets are awesome! It's hard to say which ones I like best.
Another set I use a lot is Labels Trio. It's nice for short sentiments.

I only purchase the labels. I avoided the basic shapes as I already have punches, circle and oval cutters and a cricut. Although they would be nice to have, too many other things I would rather spend my money on. The labels are unique and are awesome with the embossed edge.
good luck,
Sandy
My go to nestabilities are the basic shapes. I use the circles, rectangles, and squares all the time along with the long rectangles. I personally like having both the large and small sets because I tend to like a thinner mat.
I'm not going to be much help. I couldn't live without any of my nesties and I don't even have them all. I want them all. Can't afford them all at one time, but I couldn't live without the ones I have including the pendents and borderabilities.

I use my oval and circles a lot. I also recommend buying the complete set, this will save you in the long run. I also like Lables 1, 4, 8, and 9. And like someone else mentioned, I use the labels trio for sentiments. I'm also planning to get the large and small deckled rectangles and the ribbon trios as well.
I'm really liking some of the new ones coming out. I'm not sure about the big scalloped shapes, but a couple of the new label sets look interesting.

Wow, wow, wow ladies! You are all a plethora of knowledge on Nestabilities! Thank you SO much for taking the time to respond to this post - you have helped me in more ways than you know! I think I will buy one of the complete sets of four on Cut at Home with my coupon this month but then I want to check out Scrapbooking Alley! $16.65 a set??? Really?!?!
Please feel free to keep responding - I have a feeling that I'll be buying Nestabilities for quite a while and I can use all the opinions I can get!

Thank you again everyone!!!
ONLY if you buy more than $100!!! If you buy less than $100 remember that you'll have to pay shipping, which would make it more than $16.65 per set. Also, I dunno if they have ALL the sets.
Right now I have the Petite Large scallop ovals annd plain large ovals.
For my stamps I am going to get the Rectangles next.
I say look at your stamps and then decide what you will get the most use from.
You don't need the square nesties. You can use the rectangles to make squares so save yourself the purchase of one set! You'll just have to make the cute with the rectangle and then move the cardstock down to cut off the excess paper to make the square shape.
