I use a DSLR now, but my P&S was a Canon Powershot and I loved it! Took great pics right until I threw it away in the pocket of an old backpack. :(

I'm a Canon girl all the way. ;)

I have a Canon Powershot SX110 ( they have the SX120 now) and I love it. It has 10X zoom ( the 120 has 12x I think) and is around the $229-$249 price range. I'm a Canon girl, too. I upgraded to a Digital Rebel XS, but I love the Powershot for portability.

I too have a Canon powershot (older one, 5 mp) and love it! It has a metal body and is holding up great. My only (small) complaint is that if you turn off the flash, you need to be very steady or use a tripod because you'll get hand shake.

I just got the Lumix (by Panasonic) great little camera, fits in your pockets, and has a rechargable battery so you wont go broke buying AA's. Takes great close up shots, great outdoor shot, and is super easy to use.

I have a Nikon DSLR, and really love it, but for a small point and shoot, give it a try

Mine is a Canon PowerShot SD 750 DIGITAL ELPH and it takes great photos. Hubby has a Nikon DSLR that he paid a fortune for but he still prefers to use my point & shoot.

I have a canon t2i. I love it! It takes beautiful photos. It is very spendy, but I am also a scrapbooker and take tons of photos of my kids, too.

I used to use a Canon, but I had to upgrade my megapixels badly. (I was working with 3.2 megapixels.) On a small budget, I switched to Kodak EasyShare Z915. If you need a budget camera with some nice features, you really can't beat it for $140, which is what Staples has been selling it for the last few weeks.

It has 10X optical zoom, 10 megapixels, all the fiddly settings my Canon S1 IS had, and Image Stabilizer. The only drawback for me (and it's a minor detail) is that there is no traditional "viewfinder"; you have to take all pictures by looking at the LCD screen. The only time I have trouble with this is in bright daylight, and it may have to do with my prescription sunglasses being polarized.

HTH!

I have the Nikon D40, and I LOVE it!! I love to shoot several pictures in a row sometimes, and I need a camera that does that well. There isn't a point and shoot camera that does this. I had several lower end digital cameras before I finally realized this and splurged on my D40. It takes GREAT pictures, even when I take pics in a row.

That's not entirely true - my son has an Olympus point & shoot that does this very well. Not sure of his model number but he was here just last week and took rapid fire shots of our granddaughter running through the sprinkler and they turned out fabulously.

I've owned a Cannon, Olympus, Pentax, and Sony. The best one for the best price is the Sony, hands down. Pentax takes great pictures but does not like to be dropped. You could practically run your Cannon over with your car and it'll still work. The Olympus was great, but you cannot purchase ANY parts for it in a store. Lose your power cord? Want a spare? You have to order that directly through Olympus. We went with the Sony when we bought the last one (to replace the Olympus and Cannon) and looked at a Cannon as well. What we found was that we could get the same features (and a bit more) for $100 less by going with the Sony. We figured it was worth a shot and it hasn't proved us wrong! We took all of our honeymoon pictures and videos with it. Look on my blog if you want to see what it can do. I use it to take pictures of my crafts all of the time. It also looks like it's been run over by a car and still takes the same quality pictures it took when we pulled it out of the box. Oh, and you can buy Sony parts at any camera store.

As for the rapid fire function that someone mentioned, mine does not do true rapid fire. However, what I consider good quality rapid fire is also something that you can usually only find in the $2,000+ range... That being said, it's amazing at what you can get in a $200 point and shoot these days!
