I am looking for a really good crisp black stamp pad. Does any one have any brands they like or could recommend?
Perhaps I just need to reink my SU black ink pad, but it seems it just isn't giving me a great image. Does anyone else have that problem?
Thanks,
I honestly don't like my Basic Black ink pad. It stains my stamps when I try to stamp with it.
I use Versafine black onyx as my primary black. It's a pigment pad - very juicy. I just have to touch my stamps lightly to it to ink them up. It cleans up really easily - wet paper towel or my stampin' scrub. I haven't had a problem with it staining any of my stamps - clear or rubbah.
The only problem I've seen with it is that it doesn't dry that well on SU Whisper White or Very Vanilla paper. I've found that the paper's a little too slick for the ink. I use Georgia-Pacific white cardstock (found at Walmart) and I've heard that Papertrey paper (from www.papertreyink.com ) works really well.
I reach for my stazon black ink pad all the time. I get the crispest impression with it and it doesn't bleed when I use gamsol for coloring. I read all the palette noir positive reviews and tried but just don't like it as much.
I gave up on the SU Basic Black, imo it shouldn't have to be reinked to be crisp and black. I bought a Memories Black dye ink pad and was very pleased with the results. Much crisper image than with the SU black. For embossing I like my Versafine black.
Hands down the Versafine Black. I must have at least 10 different black ink pads and the Versafine is far superior to the others. It's a true black, dries very quickly, doesn't feather or blur and comes very well inked.

Okay where can I find Versafine ink? I went to all the local stamp/scrapbook stores and no one had a Versafine. They have Verse ink or something like that but no Versafine?
Versafine is my favorite for a rich, true black. I do have to let is sit or heat set it on SU WW or VV cardstock but it's sooooooo nice. Pallette Hybrid Noir dries instantly on the same cardstock but it's not as thick and rich looking. Brilliance Black is also great but I only have a small spot which is very goopy and I definitely have to heat set it. I'm not patient enough to use it at this point.

It amazes me that the SU company doesn't pay attention... I have seen various postings/threads about the basic back ink pad and the majority of folks say they do not like it.
However, I use it. It works fine for me, unless I'm watercoloring. Then it's Staz On. I've never tried any of the others so I don't really have a frame of reference for those.
I use the Versafine Black Onyx. It doesn't smear, gives a crisp image, and cleans off beautifully on all of my stamps including my clear stamps. Love It! I also got it at Michaels.

My favorites are the Palette Noir, Versafine Onyx Black, and Archival Ink Jet Black. I got tired of my SU black pad stamping purple, and reinking did not help.

I like the versafine onyx black the most, but it smears some with my copic markers, so for those I use palette black (which gives me slightly inferior coverage on solid black and that's what I prefer about the versafine)

I just bought the Palette Ink Noir this past fall. I love it! I don't think I've used my SU! Basic Black since (except with my students at school - they are not getting their hands on my Palette!).

i am an SU! girl... but i do not like SU! black! it looks purpley
I always thought so as well, until my mom just purchased a new SU basic black and we tried it for the first time tonight and it is a true black! I stamped two images next to each other in my basic black & my mom's and it is hilarious! Mine is a dark purple and hers is a dark black! I think I may need to purchase a new one as I don't want to bother with trying to reink it and get it true black.
I don't want to switch brands as it won't fit in with my other ink pads size wise!
One of my first purchases as a stamper was a Black Memories ink pad. 5 years later and 1 reinker it is still the perfect black. Crisp. Waterproof. True black.
