Default More Copic Talk

I've been reading so many threads on these markers, but I have a few questions before I (maybe) take the plunge.

For those of you that bought a set, do you find that there are colors you never use in the set? Do you wish you had picked out individual colors?

When you start out is there a big learning curve? Do you feel like learning to color with the Copics is like you've added another hobby?

I'd love to hear your thoughts,

I didn't get a set. I purchased a few at a time. I went to blogs and saw what colors people have as favorites and what matches SU colors. You need about 3 in each color family to be able to shade well. I also checked blogs and tutorials and studied them lots. Learning to color with them was a snap. I got beautiful results the first time. It has totally enhanced my stamping! Go for it, you will love them!

I purchased a few Copic's and Prisma markers to find out which ones I liked better. I found the Copic's were easier to use and they didn't have the smell that the Prisma's have. When Got that part figured out I purchased three colors in each color family and colors that I figured I would use the most to start off with. When picking colors you need to remember to get colors that have the same letter and that the first numbers are the same and the second number is one or two numbers different. If that dosn't confuse you I will put it this way when picking out blues for example you would get B24, B26 and B28, if you get the colors in this order they blend better. I found a site that I love going to and I got alot of information from this site before I bought any of my Copic's: http://www.ilikemarkers.blogspot.com/ I hope this helps you. There is a learning curve with the Copic's but I have found that they are worth the price and the effort.

I got the sets very very recently and ironically for me found that I have used the grays first! which if I had bought individually I would have given them a miss. (it could be that I was coloring in an Elephant though!) Also I used a colour and then needed to tone it down - out came the gray - a couple of strokes later and it was more the color I wanted. I haven't had them long enough yet to know what I am going to be using but I went with Ciao's so I had the selection and I can either refill what I use more or upgrade to Sketch.

I didn't find the learning curve any more difficult than the OMS/Gamsol/BabyOil technique with the Prismacolor pencils.

oh my gosh this is so funny - thats what I always think when I look at the sets "whats with all the grays, I'd never use all of these"

I was playing with the image a bit but I used every single "W" grey I have. Also they are good for shadows and real life tones.

I have recently bought a "bunch" of these markers in the Ciao style. I play with them a lot, just to see what they can do. I think they are a little more difficult to figure out than the gamsol technique, myself. I have found that you can "layer" a single color and get variations in that color, without having to several in a color family. The "ilikemarkers" blog has been priceless in terms of information and I check that site daily for updates.

I bought mine from copicmarkers.com and customize my own set. I found these markers very easy to use. I first thought they'd be hard but they blend easily and make you feel like somewhat an "artist"!

it looked that way to me when I was looking at the sets, thats why i was thinking it would be better to buy singles.

I just bought a few (12) and the colorless blender in shades of red, pink, green, and a few shadowey colors. I'm hoping to test them out this weekend

Great purchase Laura! I'm sure you'll love your Copics. It didn't take me too long to figure out the blending and then I was hooked!! I bought individual markers and just added to them-being sure to include "blendables".

Enjoy!!

Fortunately, I read the ilovemarkers blog BEFORE ordering my first markers.

I now know to order in sets of 3, a couple of number values apart. In fact I just placed an order with oozak.com to fill in some markers that were out of stock when I last ordered and to add to the range of colors in my collection. I also ordered the markers to match the In-Colors, as I just love those.

Quite an expensive item to collect. LOL~

The artist in me loves the Copic markers because although I make cards I spend most of my time just coloring and coloring and trying new techniques.

I have always done artsy things specifically tole painting and when I discovered stamping I knew I had found my niche as I am not a drawing artist but a color artist, if that makes sense.

I love the Copic Markers so much I am taking the Copic Certification class in October. I have 15 Sketch markers that I have gotten on sale at Hobby Lobby and I am slowly building my markers through GinaK;s Copic Marker Club.

I also go to Marianne's blog ILikeMarkers everyday and have learned alot from her great tutorial lessons. Marianne will be conducting the Certification Class.

I love Marianne's blog! She puts so much effort into her posts to explain and step-by-step everything out. She should write a book.

I've played with my new markers a little yesterday and today. My first thoughts are that they have definitely already "stepped up" my coloring a notch. I love that there is no overlap lines when coloring a large area. The blending is not hard to do. I've also successfully used the colorless blender to remove some goofs from coloring outside the lines. I think that you can use these markers as simply or as advanced as you want to.

If you'd like to see my humble first attempts they're posted here on my blog.

I buy individually, more options, more choices. Just and FYI I have lots of copic video tutorials on my blog. They may help you get a sense of the learning curve.
