Hi guys, don't know if you already know about this and I'm just late to the party! I was watching a Gina K Stamp TV video last night, and she had this on her desk Mono sand eraser.
They are only about $3.
She said it was great for removing those odd stray specks of Embossing Powder you may miss before heating. She demo'ed it, and it worked a treat.
So, of course, I've just ordered one.
Welcome to the party....LOL Jennifer McGuire has been using one for quite some time now. She also uses the tip of a craft knife to flick off stray EP. You can also use it clean off stray ink smudges that mysteruously appear. One of those must haves for card makers and so affordable.
Another love for this gem. I received a thank you card from my demo with two obvious smudges on it. Don’t know when this card was made but I used my eraser and looks like the smudges never happened.
I got mine after watching JM as well. It is great,and what a relief to know I can salvage a completed card after such a boo boo.
I love Mono Eraser. I have been using a variety of that eraser since I was a kid. I am not a kid any more. :( I bought Dishonored 2 video game tonight the teenage boy wouldn't even card me. How rude! LOL.
It is a sand eraser. I used it to remove mistakes when I was typing with a typewriter. I know a real typewriter that was brand new and not a vintage find at the thrift store, lol.
DeeAnn, thank you for that laughter! Loving it. Poor Hubby gets upset they don't ask for proof of age for alcohol anymore, lol. I did wonder if they were what I remember as a typewriter eraser. I think I actually have one of those in a drawer *somewhere*! It had a little brush at the other end to brush away the dust. Must go search for that now.
Oh my........that's a memory jogger Shaz. I remember a typewriter eraser that was a small wheel with a brush at the end of the handle and later they "updated" it to look like a thick pencil with the brush at one end and the eraser at the other........and you could sharpen it with a pencil sharpener tool. I believe mine was pink.
Jumping on the "how old are you, anyway?" wagon here: my first "real" job was as a typist for an insurance company. We had those erasers, but it wouldn't have worked for what I was doing. The forms were in triplicate (you know, three sheets stacked with carbon paper between), and there was no saving that! While I was learning, I made so many mistakes that I was embarrassed to throw all of those forms in the trash, so I tucked them in my purse and took them home so nobody would see my shame...
I never, ever get carded anywhere any more - usually because the person at the register could be one of my kids - or even one of my grandkids, lol! That's okay - I earned every single year and I'm keeping them all!
Another option: in the school supply aisle, they have (or, at least, had) erasers that are half pink/half white or gray. The pink end is for pencils, the white/gray end is for ink. Same concept as the typewriter eraser, and (I'm guessing) the mono eraser...
I have one and it doesn't remove ink very well....or at all, sometimes.
I haven’t used one but I’m imagining it could be removing pigment ink smudges much more successfully than dye-based ink ones, just because pigment ink basically sits on the surface and dye ink soaks in. Maybe somebody could test some deliberate smudges to see!
I have a mono sand eraser and love it! I can’t seem to finish a card without a smudge and was pleasantly surprised at how easily this corrected most of my boo-boos!
I jumped on the bandwagon, thanks to Jennifer McGuire, and use it all the time. I found a deal on Amazon, 5 for less than $8, so I can smudge my cards for years to come! Joanne is right, it works beautifully for those light, surface-y smudges, but not so much for the ones that soak in. I've also used it for stray bits of embossing powder that are already heat-set.
So old? I had completely forgotten the typewriter eraser (and the bits of paper between the carbon and the copies to stop them smudging as you rubbed them out one by one as well). Thank you
OH YES! I heard about the Mono Eraser from Jennifer McGuire! I bought more than one with the price so cheap! I did the same thing as Becky (above) & purchased mine from Amazon. ;) LOVE THEM!
I'm in my 70s, and actually have two (now very small) typewriter erasers. One is shaped like a pencil (a stub now) that you peel off the paper covering to expose more tip. I have been using it to remove smudges forever, with varying success. So, I love my sand eraser and use it all the time with nearly 100% success.
I will buck the trend and tell you I discovered the Mono sand eraser from Dena Rekow of The Creativity Cave lol! I bought a couple from Dick Blick to put in my 15 yo artist daughter's Christmas stocking. She loves the erasers!
I have saved some cards with this inexpensive tool, too, thanks to Lydia talking about it on her blog, Understand Blue . If you're not familiar with it, her blog is great!

I think I remember those too, only I think mine was a double ended eraser with a soft pale eraser for pencil at one end and this harder darker eraser at the other end.
I also saw Jennifer use one and thought I need one of those! Opened my desk drawer and there was one sitting in it. LOL Loved that I already had one but had to laugh at myself!

People keep asking me when my husband & I are going to start a family. We are in our forties. That is not happening. That ship has sailed, lol. The other day a teenager at Taco Bell gave us a senior discount and didn't even ask our age. We couldn't stop laughing about it.
I guess I am the only one who doesn't watch Jennifer's video's. I have watched a couple. She seems very lovely. I don't watch her videos because I am an artist. I was watching a lot of crafting videos and developing bad techniques in my personal art. Great if I was crafting. Not so great when I am trying to do a game illustration. I was like "Crafting videos got to go!" I bought my Mono eraser because I wanted a sand eraser for my illustration work. I looked up sand eraser and Mono had one. I ordered it. Then all of sudden I start seeing it everywhere in coloring book videos & rubber stamping videos, lol.
Many years ago I worked at a convenience/gas store. I carded EVERYONE. I think the rule then was you had to look over 30 otherwise you got carded. Not on my shift... you better look ancient cause you're getting carded. LOL
Anyway - this is the first time I heard of a sand eraser. I have used superfine sandpaper though. LOL I once once given one of the those square rubber things in with a bunch of other stuff that removes adhesive residue. Only I hadn't a clue what it was. So I ended up throwing it out. It wasn't until some time later I found out what it was for. And darn it, I could've used it! LOL
If you live in my neck of the woods you can get carded for buying any type of liquor in some stores........it's just their policy. One minute the clerk cards someone that's 22 and the next person can be 85......don't know if the clerk actually looks at that ID but they require you to show it.

When I was 16 my sister (several years older) worked for a convenience store. She lived down in FL and I was visiting for the summer. I worked for her boss for one day testing employees to see if they would sell me alcohol. I was so self-conscious so that was hard for me especially when I had to walk away. But the last woman got busted - she spent the whole time on the phone, too. Funny thing is, I never looked old for my age. If anything I tended to look younger. There really was no reason whatsoever not to card me.
I probably don't look that young for my age now and certainly old enough. But I've been carded twice at casinos and once going into a bar at one. My husband was all like WTH?!? He never gets carded. I told him he probably looks like he's my father. LMAO (he's only a year older)
I had a mono (sand) eraser long ago, before paper crafting, but when I tried using it for on cards didn't have any luck. I bought a new one, thinking the old one might have hardened or otherwise lost its oomph. But it still doesn't work for me. I'm no Jennifer McGuire. : )
