MM Paper Trimmer PROBLEMS!

So I've had my MM paper trimmer for JUST over a year and I was always singing its praises! Thought it was the best thing on the planet...UNTIL...the blade became misaligned and a little damaged! I realigned the blade and it works better, but I like a good clean cut.
Thought I'd contact MM to see if I can get a new blade....I was HONEST and said that I've had it for almost 13 months so she wouldn't send me a new one. But I don't expect anything for free...I was prepared to BUY one...
but they apparently don't SELL them AT ALL!
My paper trimmer is a waste now!
All MM can seem to say is..."Sorry you're having trouble..."
Such a terrible experience!

Any suggestions??

Sorry, no suggestions! Just sympathy because the same thing happened to me. Can't believe they don't sell replacement blades.

Sorry, no helpful words from me either, just to let you know that I'm yet another one who had the same problem. I'm not sure it wasn't damaged from the outset, but I just didn't notice until I started using thicker SU and PTI paper. Same response - basically I'm out of luck. It doesn't cut straight, it damages my paper, but oh well they say...

I was not pleased at all with their CS. I've sworn off MM products, and am waiting until I can justify a Genesis.

So sorry for your troubles!

Count me in the club. Only, if it makes you feel better, I went through 4 of the MM trimmers (people kept saying how good they are) before I finally learned my lesson. Yes, I was dense.

I am having the same problem. I am trying to decide what to do with my MM trimmer. To get rid of it & just my tonic or to get another.

I had just the opposite luck with MM, I say try again with their customer service people, I had one of the originals that had the numbers wear off with use and they sent me a brand new one when I emailed them (just required that I send them a photo). I haven't had any blade problems, knock on wood.
I dont have any other suggestions, other than try them again, as I am not sure exactly what you mean when you say the blade is misaligned, can you post pictures?

I will try to get pics up for you....
AND as it turns out, A friend corrected me....I've only had the MM paper trimmer since October, 2009 NOT for 13 months as I thought. 13 months ago was when I bought my Fiskars one...but I don't like the amount of pressure I need to use with it, so tried the MM trimmer.
I emailed the MM lady back and explained...so I guess we'll see what she has to say. Part of the problem is that I bought it at a warehouse sale....I have a reciept, but it doesn't specify what I purchased. So hopefully there is no problem!
So glad I'm not the only one with a crappy experience though!

As one who received the proverbial "too bad" from customer service at MM, I think there are some problems they're willing (able) to help with and some they are not. The blade (or is it the track), they most definitely are not.

I've had mine for 3 years and not had any problems. I had convinced myself to buy a Genesis but decided to wait. I figured it's still WAY cheaper to use a coupon at M's on another MM trimmer($30??) and get 2 or 3 years out of it than spending over $300 for the Genesis.

I suppose I'd feel differently if I was constantly shelling out $ on new trimmers but I'm not.

Maybe the difference is the thickness of cs you're using. I use Bazzill and SU occasionally but I don't have any of the thick PTI. Honestly, I don't care how great the PTI cs is--I've heard too many people talk about it destroying their punches, trimmers, etc. I just don't think these tools were designed for paper over 65lb. or so. I think some of them even state that on their packaging now.

Maybe consider the Genesis, but I'd talk to Bonnie first and make sure you won't run into the same problem using the heavy cs with it.

Just my .02

I loved mine, even with the worn-off numbers thing, but then the blade guard snapped off. I replaced it with a new fiskars and don't miss the MM one at all. Even though it folds, it's still too heavy and bulky to pack for crops. I won't be buying another one, even with a coupon.

I have a 12" Fiskars Rotary and I LOVE it! It is the best trimmer I have ever owned and i went through several.
My sister had the MM one and she had the same thing happen. It didn't cut right from the beginning. Then after 4 months the blade broke and MM would not replace it. She got the SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE and that was it.
She now owns a Fiskars rotary also.

Default Poor response from MM.

I think we might be the tip of the iceberg as I read how many of you have had the same problem with MM as I did. MM quickly replaced my first trimmer when the grid and numbers wore off, but would not sell me a replacement blade when mine got damaged. You'd think after all of these calls to CS that someone on high would get the idea that yes it's better to sell replacement blades than lose the customer's business. duh! Customer satisfaction is key.
Guess that's why I don't see the MM trimmer in the store very often. The word is "out" on lack of cooperation in selling replacement blades.

I had the mm cutter that the numbers wore off and they replaced it with a new one without any questions asked. However, my DGD tried to cut a stick with it and amazingly ruined the blade and carriage. LOL! I tried to buy a blade and they said they didn't sell them. It's really too bad because I LOVED that trimmer and in an eco friendly enviornment, I would rather replace a small part (and wanted to pay for it) than toss the whole thing in the trash. Now I have a fiskar, it's ok ,but I loved the self sharpening aspect of the mm.

I have to say that I was one of the lucky ones. My trimmer blade developed a nick in it, after a few emails they sent me a replacement free of charge (to the UK too). I would have happily paid for a replacement blade though, if it were available. Surely someone on here must have some contacts within MM that could nudge them in that direction?

LOVELY!!! I just finished a post about this! I'm not giving up yet though. I'm mad enough about it that I'm going to keep b**ching until I get a better response than, "Oh it's your fault. Tough luck." Mine's only 7 months old!!!

Update: I have forwarded MM a copy of my reciept from October 2009 and I am awaiting a reply from the "customer" service. Not that there's any service in their Customer department! LOL
Oddly enough...the guy at a wholesale place I was at this weekend (where I bought it from originally) commented about how MM KNEW there was a bunch of defective cutters out there and they were just replacing them at one point. But they had such a difficult time with them as well....such a bad time that they now don't even carry the trimmer anymore! They also had tons of customers complain about the product.......
NOT GOOD for MM!

Are you all talking about the white trimmer with the scoring and cutting one

http://www.createforless.com/Martha+...pid162962.aspx

- I too own one of these and have not had any problems BUT I did find this site that sells replacement
blades that say fit the circle and trimmer
Not sure if this helps any but thought it was worth mentioning

Thanks for the link...but it's a Making Memories paper trimmer, these refills are for Martha Stewart. If I got the Martha Stewart one I would probably have a paper trimmer that works right now! LOL

Default keep after them

I would not let the company get off easy. Just keep asking them if they aren't going to BACK their product, and if nothing else, you will report it with a complaint to the "better business bureau" There is a form online to do
that. I have the cutter, but only use it for toting somehwher, as I use
the old school "QUILOTINNE" CUTTER, that will never break or the blade doesn't get ruined

Further Update: Well, my frustrations with this trimmer finally got me on the phone with Making Memories! I'm better at talking about these things than I am at writing them.....
I asked for the MANAGER of customer service and had a great chat with her. She indicated that they will be making replacement blades soon....it's in the works. She was quite understanding and was able to shed some light on a few of their challenges.
I sent her a copy of my communications and a link to THIS forum for her reference.....and I hope that we can all get our concerns addressed!!

When you called, which number did you call? Do you by any chance remember the lady's name?? I would like to contact her too. Maybe if she gets a barrage of phone calls, it might speed things along.

Thanks!

I went thru 2 of these cutters with bad blades within a month or so of purchase - and I don't abuse my cutters - they are a lifeline to my sanity. I called and called MM and never got anywhere with CS - wish I would have been persistent. I was so angry after the last one that I threw it into the trash - operative word - threw!!! I bought a Tonic and love it!!!

Congrats on getting yours replaced - you are my hero!

Default Can you get blades????

I have just read through this thread and now I am very concerned that I am doomed. I have a MM trimmer and my blade is blunt. Can anyone tell me did they make replacement blades or not?

I swear if I have to throw my cutter out just because of a blade I will never buy another product from MM again.

I have emailed them twice and they are chosing to ignore me!

help...please...anyone?

Use it until it is completely dead, throw it away and buy a new trimmer from Fiskars or Tonic. You will probably not be able to get your current blade replaced or find someone at MM who gives a $&*#(*. I've had bad luck with other MM products, too, so I just stay away from that brand now.

I was afraid of that. No problem I got it throw it out...... I will do that right after I finish writing my email telling them that I am never buying a product from them again and that I will be telling everyone why on Facebook, twitter and every other Scrapbooking forum I know of and I am part of.

Cheers

queensuzanne fear not! I was almost in complete shock when I went to write my angry email and found a reply in my inbox from MM saying the do sell replacement blades. Now lets see how rediculous the postage is going to be to the land down under!

Oh! See, they did reply! I didn't notice you were in Australia, hope the shipping isn't too bad. I'm in Canada and they rape us with shipping as well.....and we're not that far really!!

Yes, they do sell replacements parts. My blade wouldn't make a clean cut. I bought a replacement. It's a 2 pack. I still have the 2nd blade, somewhere.
