Several years ago I sold my Sizzix and all the dies because I purchased a Wishblade. Now I wish I had the Sizzix just for the embossing capabilities. What is the least expensive machine to buy that will allow me to do the most embossing?
What I want in a machine:
* embossing
* compatible with as many companies' dies as possible
* I have no need to cut so that is not part of my "needs".
* Doesn't have to be portable either because I do not take my stuff anywhere.
Thanks for any help!!!

I have had a Cricut for a couple years, and just won the Expression at a crop, but I too, wanted something for the embossing capabilities.
I bought a Big Shot - it's easy to use, sturdy and can work with any of the dies out there. I am very happy with it, and after playing with it, a friend of mine wants to get one also.
If you want to use the embossing folders, a rolling pin will work! I tried it.
Please tell us how you do this?? I would love to learn that technique until I upgrade to a Big Shot. Right now, I have the original red Sizzix machine. I love it, but it seems like a dinosaur now with the Big Shot.
I have a Big Shot and the original Sizzix machine. I find that I use the original machine more often than not. I use it for embossing folders and for nestability dies. It just seems easier to me than making a "sandwich" and cranking it through the Big Shot, plus it takes up less space on my desk to use it.
I do love my Big Shot for those dies that are too large for the original and when I am cutting out multiple Sizzlets alphabet letters. I would never get rid rid of my Big Shot but, believe it or not, the original Sizzix is still my "go to" die cutting tool.
I have the original sizzix and rarely use this, but want to start purchasing embossing plates. I gather you can use any type in the original sizzix machine, but do you need any special plates for this? I wasn't sure if I needed to buy the sandwich plates the other machines use along with the dies. Thanks!

My vote is for a Big Kick.
Buy it at Joann or Mike's or Hobby Lobby with a 40% or 50% off coupon - you can get it for $50.
I bought the Sizzix Side Kick when Quikutz was so popular. I've got so many sizzlets I wanted something I could use them in also. I just ordered the Big Shot from Amazon for 40% off plus free shipping. What I want is the embossing file to make dots. The only one I've seen online so far is by Cuttlebug. I know it will work but are there others?
Judy, I know Sizzix has a dots folder out - I think it is an SU exclusive but I am not positive. It's more of a dots cluster - it has 3 dots in little clusters all over the folder, I really love the look of it. But the CB Swiss Dots folder - I use it all the time!

You don't need any extra plates to use the embossing folders in the original Sizzix Press. All you need is the Sizzix Converter - the piece that is magnetic and snaps to the press part. You pop that on, then use your regular cutting plate. Load your paper into the folder, and then slide it through, pulling the handle down firmly, until you have done that over the entire folder.
I have found the new QK folders need a little shim - just a one piece cardstock shim - to get a good impression with the Sizzix press.
I have the Big Kick, but I do use my original sizzix a lot for quick embossing, especially for my tiny embossing folders.
I have the Big Kick as well as the original Sizzix. I need to know what the sandwich is for using a Cuttlebug embossing folder with the Big Kick. I have searched online as well as here in SCS but have not found it.

With the Big Kick, this is the sandwich I use, from bottom to top
Multi-Purpose Platform, Tab 1
Clear cutting plate
Embossing folder with paper in it
Clear cutting plate
Roll through Big Kick
With the Original Sizzix press, it's even easier. You just need the Magnetic Sizzix Converter. Snap it on, put your paper in the folder and put it through the press like you would other dies - push forward, pull down, push forward, pull down, until it's done.
