Default Mini Sewing Machine...

Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this sewing machine. I was thinking that it would be great for cards as it is very inexpensive...

The problem with buying a sewing machine is that I would want to listen to the sound of the motor before plunking down any money --- sort of a test drive. I played the HSN video and the machine sounds too tinny -- not solid sounding.

Is there a sewing store near where you live? They may have an inexpensive machine that you could test drive.

Well, if it's anything like the very similar one I bought on QVC (a few years ago) . . . I would advise you not to waste your money . . . :(

Truth is, I don't know many folks, OK, make that none at all, that have been pleased with the performance of these cheap machines. But, I've seen threads a plenty here on SCS who have experienced nothing but disappointment . . .

We all went and bought Janome Sew Minis when Hancockfabrics.com (?) put them on sale for around $35. ;) Everybody seems extremely pleased with this machine, and I even bought two, but, haven't taken 'em outta' the box yet . . . so many tools, so little time . . .

Thanks for the input. I think I will pass on the really cheap one and buy the Janome.

Thanks again!

I have the Janome Mini ($39.99 on sale at the above) and haven't actually used it yet on paper but I did just hem two pairs of JEANS with it! I have a regular sewing machine but the Janome just is so much easier to use (and carry) and it's only 5 lbs!

However, that being said... the one at HSN would probably work great for paper and is half the price AND comes in colors! (Oh wait, they just have green.) Does it come with the power cord? It seems to have all the features needed for sewing -- like the lock stitching and reverse. Oh.. but did you read the reviews on this machine? That says more about the product than anything... er, not so good.

Here's a link to the Janome Sew Mini: http://tinyurl.com/37adgk. It's on sale right now for $49.99 but it does go on sale quite often for less. If you do a web search, you can find a free shipping coupon. It seems to me that is "welcome"....

Yes.. for a few dollars more, get the Janome. I had one of those cheap "craft" sewing machines, and right out of the box it didn't work. I think it's the same one-different color. Save your money for the real deal-You won't be disappointed with the Janome.

Did you notice there are customer reviews for the Sew-Mini on the HSN website?

Sounds like it could be the cure for low blood pressure!

No, the reviews on HSN are for the mini sewing machine that the OP is asking about. Sorry if there was confusion about that.

Oh... you know, I totally had read your post wrong anyhow. LOL I don't know what I had read. In my mind, I thought you said the reviews said it could everything but make coffee!! WHERE in the world did I read that?!! (Oh my gosh... must have been a brain fart or something.) So I thought your post meant the reviews were all so great. I couldn't figure out what machine you were talking about because I did read the reviews for the green sewing machine. (That's what happens when I multi-task I guess.)
