Default Marvy Jewel Picker

I just discovered this little tool and wanted to share it because it works great for placing sequins, jewels, etc. on projects. I have always had difficulty with the WeR Quickstick so went on the hunt for something else and decided to try this--so glad that I did.

A second vote for that tool. I was shuffling around some boxes yesterday and found a new unopened pack of three!

Most large craft stores sell them. Sometimes they can be found in the aisle of fabric/t-shirt decor stuff, by the packs of gems to stick on fabric projects. They can also be found in the beading/jewelry making aisle. Paper crafters use them but I guess it's a secret.

Other options that were discussed in another thread were a bit of beeswax on a toothpick or the wax "crayon" that comes in egg-dying kits...

On Ebay, I bought a set of 4 wax pencils from China for about a dollar. When sharpened, they are perfect for setting small embellishments. I've got an embossing folder that just demands gems around the edge, and the wax pencils work fabulously.

This card has the ef I'm talking about:

Elegant Easter Egg by contrapat - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

also the one on the right in this picture:

C-ing double! by contrapat - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Once you sharpen the pencil originally, unless you break the point for some reason (hasn't happened to me yet), you're not going to have to sharpen it again. So they last a long time. It's cheap, it works. Two of my favorite things!

Thanks to your suggestion, I purchased this, and had a chance to use it this last week. You are so right, it works great, and releases much easier than the Quickstick. I'm so glad you shared your purchase, because I love using sequins, and this makes it so simple!!!! Thanks again!

I bought this per your recommendation, looks smaller than my Katana (which I LOVE) Hope it works well for tiny crystals!

I have this tool.
QuicKutz QuickStik - Craft Critique
I have had it for several years. Several companies have similar tools. I use the scraper side to loosen jewel or other embellishment and then the sticky tip for picking up the item and placing it on a project. The sharp poker tip is useful when popping out die cuts. Being able to change to tip around quickly is great!

LOL - I thought it was just my clumsy self having issues with the Quickstick! Overall, works better than tweezers, but sometimes i need another 2 hands to help release the gem from the tip. I'm going to give this one a try. I do sometimes use the Quickstick to life off little glue spots or dirt from my card

Default Jewel Picker

I loved this product at first but now it has lost its stick and I tried the suggestion that I found online, which was to run some adhesive tape over the ends to remove any dust or particles and that did nothing to resolve the issue.

Suggestions anyone??

I don't have one so I don't know what the tips are made of, but try wiping them down with rubbing alcohol. That works for a lot of other things that have collected dust or other fine debris (like the back of photopolymer stamps). Not a good idea for all the time, probably, but now and again it's fine...

Ok, almost two years later and Im just noticing this particular post.
I kept waiting for our craft stores to bring this tool but never thought to look in that section of the store. Finally ordered on online...

Thanks for the suggestion. I was using mine yesterday and having issues with it not sticking. I am really frustrated because I am working in a clean, pet-free environment and the tool is basically brand new. I can't imagine why it does not stick. I will try rubbing alcohol. Another idea I had was to dip it in Tacky glue and let it dry or put some sort of tacky poster tape on the end. I haven't tried anything but the tape and very fine sand paper that was suggested on the package. Both techniques helped for about two pick-ups of small paper and then... no stick. I might have to switch to the wax pencils. Just to be clear, are you using these tools to pick up card stock or only jewels, etc? Maybe that is my problem!

annie- I've really only used the wax pencil for setting gems, and I also buy my gems on Ebay without adhesive backs. I use a nail tool called a dotting tool to put a tiny dot of Aleene's Jewel It glue down, then with the wax pencil I place the gem. I do ten or so at a time so the glue doesn't dry out, and now that I'm used to doing this, I am way faster than you might think. People think I'm nuts for hand-setting all those little gems, but it looks terrific, and once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy.
I never thought about using the wax pencil on paper bits, but now I'll give it a try, since I like to do mosaic work with die cuts. Hm....
