I've used Kokuyo adhesive for years and now I can't find it anywhere. I've read that Scotch brand works as well, but unless they have made a huge improvement since I last tried it in my opinion it doesn't. Can anyone direct me to a site where I can purchase it? Thanks!
I've ordered the Japanese version of the Kokuyo dot adhesive from jetpens.com and been pretty happy with their service. I'm not sure if this version fits in the old US versions, though, so you may need to email them to ask that.
Thank you. I checked out the site, but was confused on which refill went with which case. I'll contact them & try to figure it out.
Hmmm, that is confusing as to which one to order. The names are slightly different. Thankfully, I have a huge rubbermaid box full of refills. I am trying to go through them slowly! I can't imagine NOT having Kokuyo adhesive!
I would love to know what you find out when you call.

"A buyer on another large board said that Scotch bought the American rights to the Kokuyo adhesive that we all love so well. 2Peas has it. I have not tried it yet but understand it is the SAME adhesive! Anyone else heard this too?"
Here's the link for the adhesive: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/shop/adhesives/
I just bought a few of these: Kokuyo Dot Liner Acid Free Original Tape Refill - 8.4 mm X 16 m - Permanent (KOKUYO TA-D400N-0
I should get them today (they are really fast with shipping) and will try them out on the original cartridge and see if they fit -- fingers crossed!!! Or else I'm in trouble because I didn't see the cartridge on sale at Jetpens
I think this adhesive is one of the better (if not best) I've tried of this type. I did buy the new American Crafts ones too (before I found this Kokuyo refills) but haven't gotten to try it yet.
For much heavier layers I use either Tombow mono multi (green cap) glue or the Scor-Tape type.
It looks like Kokuyo also has something called "Dot Liner Power Acid Free Tape - 10 mm X 10 m - Permanent" but it's a bit more expensive; $10 for the cartridge & tape. I've never tried this one, but if it's anything like their original it should be great. I just wish JetPens.com had the refills for it, but maybe it's just out of stock right now.
Thank you for posting right away. I can't imagine using another brand. I've tried almost everything out there & this is the one that works best for me. For some reason with the others I tend to slightly twist as I roll it on and then I get 1/2 a strip and it backs up and gets stringy.
How does this adhesive hold? I have not been impressed with the ones i have tried...And, the list is long!
Thanks!
Patti
I've never had things come apart since I switched to Kokuyo. However I do use Zip glue a lot. esp. for large areas and multiple layers. I do this for three reasons. 1) it's very inexpensive 2) since it's liquid you have a little time to adjust your paper so it's down perfect, with Kokuyo once you touch the surface it really 'grabs.' 3) makes my hard to find Koyuko last longer. I don't like messing with the Zip for smaller pieces or areas I'm pretty sure I'll get it together straight.
Zip Dry is available at most places that sell craft supplies. Michaels, Hobby Lobby and several online resources. It comes in a 2 oz. bottle & usually sells for 5.99. I use a 40%coupon at Michael's so end up paying around 3.50. It goes way farther than any tape, only need a thin line, and does not buckle or wrinkle the paper. If a tiny bit squeezes out let it dry & use your square adhesive remover & it comes right off. I learned to store my glues upside down & they don't clog up.
I ordered some, and it has shipped so hopefully I can compare soon. I bought the "long" refill. I still have tons of Kokuyo but wanted to get this to know I have a backup plus I needed some pens too. Great reason to order some.
I was looking at the "long" refill and the width is 10mm, which larger than the original width of 8.4 mm. Hopefully you also got one of the "long" applicators.
The Kokuyo products disappeared soon after I had discovered the joys of their Tape 'n' Roller Plus adhesive. I had one refill, but that's now gone as well. The only Kokuyo adhesives I could find on the Jetpen site were the "dotty" ones, which I've never used. What is the difference between the two? Has anyone used both the Tape 'n' Roller Plus and the dotted adhesive? I'd like to figure out if I would be happy if I made the switch.
I know they are all called "Dot Liner" now, but this one looks like the Tape n Roller - look at the top of the package how it has the rectangular shapes not dots or even on the cartridge under DotLiner Power: Kokuyo Dot Liner Power Acid Free Tape - 10 mm X 10 m - Permanent http://www.jetpens.com/product_info....oducts_id/4844
Compare your original Tape N Roller size (width and length) to the link above of Dot Liner Power. I can't find a big enough pic of your original to see it.
Have I thoroughly confused you as much as myself ?? As to your question - I haven't tried Tape N Roller. I'm sorry I can't compare!!

Colleen, I got my goodies yesterday, and I am VERY pleased! I am going to place another order! I did get a "long" refill and a "long" original with the applicator case. It is a tiny bit wider; not much. But you get 85 ft. of tape on this thing! It's awesome! I am going to order more "longs."

I have bad news. I emailed JetPens & asked if they would be restocking the applicators of the Koyuko orginal. I got an answer this morning. Once their Kokuyo products are gone they will not be getting any more as the Kokuyo company has decided not to supply them!!! Ladies place your orders & get stocked up..........I just placed my 2nd order this week.

Wow, I wonder why that is? Why won't Kokuyo sell to the U.S. anymore? I am very sad! I may have to stock up on even more!

I'm so sad to hear that. Does anyone know if the adhesive in the refills will lose it's stickiness after storing for a long time? I guess I better stock up, but don't want to buy more than I can use before they go bad.
I just finished up my Kokuyo that I had purchased probably 3 yrs. ago........no problems at all. I ran across a great deal & stocked up then & haven't purchased any adhesive since except Zip Dry. I would not stock up on that ever.......it gets thick & sometimes I throw it out before I finish the bottle. It's still a great bargain even if I don't use all of it. My first shipment from JetPens came today & each refill is in a sealed bag, but even the bubble pkg. from what I had stored kept it fine.
I've been told from one internet company that the Tombow dot adhesive will work the same as Kokuyo, but they sell it so who knows? I have a big order in and will worry about what to use next when I get low. Maybe Kokuyo will change their mind, maybe someone will come out with a satisfactory product. I ordered as much as I dared spend for now........and wanted to let the rest of you here know what I found out so you could stock pile too if you wanted.
Gail, I have seen on another board where Tombow starts falling apart after a few years. Many people have been disappointed. Like you, I just stocked up on some more, and I am praying someone will come out with a similar product. This is SO disappointing to me for sure! Here is the e-mail I got from JetPens:
Thanks for your e-mail. Kokuyo has stopped exporting this line to the US, so the dispensers are no longer available to us. The refills will also be discontinued when they are sold out. I sincerely apologize about the inconvenience.
Please let us know if you need further assistance.
Have a great day!
Best,

The stash I ordered last year is almost gone and I can't find it at Jetpens anymore. I thought it would be available from them ofr longer, so only ordered a dozen (my bad!) and now I need a source. Is it true that the Scotch brand is the same? I truly love the Kokuyo and don't want to "make do" unless I must. Thanks for any help anyone out there can give me.

Didn't read far enough to read this quote from Jetpens. So...what do you use now, or will you use when you run out? I'm so bummed!
I still have quit a lot of my Kokuto stash since I use liquid as much as I can to make my supply last. However I did try the Scotch dot adhesive and do like it probably ad much as Kokuto. Scotch has a rebate right now and will pay up to 7.99 for trying it. Now the question is if it will hold up over time. Also it cost way more than Kokuto. The dispenser is 7.99 & refill is 6.99! Even with a coupon for 40% off it's more than Kokuto. Liquid as it's advantages as far as being forgiving some & letting you move it a little. However my nozzles get clogged up and I'm always cleaning them out. I've tried several brands & they all do it. I store them upside down & that helps, but still have to fuss with them.

Thanks so much for the review of the Scotch brand roller tape. I just picked some up at JoAnns and will give it a try. It is expensive, but maybe, if it is as good, I can watch for specials. For liquid adhesive, I like the Tombow Multi (green caps). It doesn't clog, holds well and goes on smoothly (there are two ends with different tips). It's available at Michaels, JoAnns etc. In situations when only a liquid glue will work, it's what I use, but my go-to has always been the Kokuyo, so I'm really hoping this Scotch will do the trick. Again, thanks for your response.
The cartridge looks similar. If anyone is using this one, is it as good as Kokuyo?
Thanks!
I just bought and used the Scotch which looks identical to what you posted, except that my cartridge is blue. I think it might have something to do with the width of the dots. Mine is 3/8" just like the Kokuyo, but I no longer have the package to compare the sizes they specify. I only used it once and it seemed to work, but I am planning to do a "side by side" comparison soon and will report on the results here. I'm hoping what I have is the same (blue cartridge) as it is available locally. I'm interested in what the difference in the red cartridge is as I didn't see that one in the store. Anyone have a report?
The ones I've seen in M's or other stores have the blue casing & that's what I purchased to try. If over long term everything stays stuck together this is what I'll use when I run out of my Kokuto supply. I will order from Jet Pens as the refills are 3.80 vs. 6.99 in the store. Even using a 40% coupon it is cheaper plus I like to buy in volumn and have a supply. I'm interested in knowing the difference between the red & blue also.
I just did a side by side comparison of the Koyuko and the Scotch (in the blue cartridge) and I'm happy to report that, at least after a day, they both adhere equally. The paper tore in both cases rather than actually pulling apart. Over time I'm hoping the results will continue. I would recommend the Scotch to those of you who are Koyuko lovers like me. If Jet Pens has the lowest price, that's where I'm headed as well. Thanks for the tip!
Except for the color I can't see a difference in shape, description or cost. Will try to investigate and will let you know what I find out. Anyone know already?
