I made an autograph frame for dh's b'day party where everyone left him a message on the mat that goes around a picture. My baby is 7 months old and I'd like to put his handprint on the mat since he was there. Would I just use my SU black ink pad? Or, will it stain his hand really bad? TIA!
Personally, I would have him put his hand in a pigment ink and then use a clear embossing powder to emboss the image. I really don't think there's a right or wrong way to do this, but that's what I would do.
My SIL and I did her baby's hand and foot prints in classic ink. We used bashful blue and it washed right off. We were scared to use a dark color.
It was kinda difficult to do though. He kept moving his fingers and toes and we were getting a really smeared images. It took lot of tries to get it right. I would definitely suggest practicing on scrap paper first ;).
i do my daughters handprints all the time. its how she signs our cards. she is almost 3 now.
i prefer pigment ink pads, the all wash off better than dye, even the dark ones.
and i rub the ink across her hand instead of patting it. better coverage.
been doing this since she was little. practice first and make it a game with your son. he will figure it out fast. when you got the hang of it, reink guide his hand and once the print is done, push the project away fast before he goes to stamp again.

The kids ink from SU is washable and it comes in some pretty colours. I use it a lot for my stamp projects and my kids repeate back to me what I always say to them....."Stay out of my craft stuff!" lol
I did hand print Christmas cards when my oldest was only a year old. I used craft paint (non toxic) and had her put a hand print on each card. She loved the ooey gooey mess she was "alowed" to make and they turned out pretty cute. We had to let them dry for a really long time though. I have also heard of people using kids finger paints for the same thing. Both are really easy to clean up and safe for kids to use just in case they deside to eat some of it. lol

I did my friend's baby's footprints for her to make a Father's Day card last year. We used black pigment ink (Brilliance Graphite Black) and it wiped off very easily with a baby wipe.

I made Christening invites...used the SU Kids ink to get his hand print. We wait until he was asleep. Worked perfectly.
BTW: we made only one impression then made copies...we didn't stamp his little hand 50 times...lol
That thought just made me giggle! I would wonder if you had put something extra in the baby bottle if you were able to do all 50 while he was sleeping!
I think I might try this out with my dog's paw print!

Don't feel bad. Gramma used Elegant Eggplant on her baby grand daughter for footprints. All of 3 months old. Guess what it didn't wash off well. Tried everything. So she went home looking like we had her walking on grapes for wine. I was mortified. Didnt use black as didn't want it to stain. This was for a scrapbook page for Mom. We all laugh about it now.
I do like the idea of versa mark and embossing.Oh why didn't I think if that.

I've used Versamark with white embossing powder on pink CS with my girls and turned out great. I've also use acrylic paint and that comes off. I have sandwhich bags ready to put on their little hands to cut down on any mess while I'm finishing up before we wash up.
I've done my little guy's prints in Bashful Blue and Chocolate Chip, and both came off his piggies and paws quite nicely with a baby wipe - I like the idea of pigment ink + embossing though!
I know we are all stampers and have tons of ink around but there is another way to do this. In 1982 before we had all these wonderful products I wanted to make a print of my daughters feet for a scrapbook. I used lipstick. It worked fantastic. And I can testify to the fact that 25 years later it still looks great in the scrapbook!

Great idea... I think I also read on another thread a few weeks ago, that someone used lipstick and then embossed with it! (used it just like pigment ink)
