Hi! I'm having a horrible time getting my new Just Rite stamps to cleanly stamp. I put on the border then the inside and get ink all over the smooth part of the inside stamp and not getting the image completely. Is it best to stamp the border alone then the inside????
I'm so disappointed and have a project to do!!
Can anyone help with tips. Am I doing something wrong? I'd appreciate any help I can get.
Hi, Barbara!
If you can tell me specifically which stamp set and block (clear or wood?) you are having trouble with, I'll try my best to help you out! Are you only wanting to stamp the center image? If so, try removing the border and just stamping the center.
Some people trim the smooth part. I can't bring myself to do that. Make sure your stamp and border are completely adhered to the ridges in the block. Sometimes there is just one little part not completely flat and that is enough to make a mess. I find if I "stamp" several times on a firm surface before inking it helps to get the stamp and border aligned in the little ridges. Taking the ink pad to the stamp, instead of the other way around also helps me.
I had the same problem and the smooth part of the middle would leave a large unsightly smudge. I won't buy another set because I am scared it will do the same thing. I really like the designs but couldn't figure out how to use them.
Trimming is definitely the answer. My first experiences with the stamps were just like yours. I didn't even realize that trimming was an option until I read a post on SCS. I figured I wasn't using the stamps anyway so why not give trimming a try. Now the stamps work great. Go ahead and just trim one stamp (maybe your least favorite?) and see if it works for you.
Trimming is cutting out/off the excess rubber. I do this to all of my stamps from JustRite and they work amazingly well. (I got the lines too before I trimmed them.)
Just take a sharp scissors or snips and trim off the excess "flat" rubber around the image. That should help.

I want to thank you all for replying!!! I'm so new here I didn't really know how this would even work.
I was able to get 1 clear image today without trimming though I will do that. I have 2 other Just Rite sets - that's how much I like their images but I'm not gonna lie......they're not so easy to work with.
I trim close to the image and then make sure they are flat in the grooves (I stamp it a couple times on scratch paper before adding ink to make sure the image is settled well). There is a small learning curve with these stamps but once you've done those two things they stamp beautifully.

The attached image is what a trimmed JustRite stamp looks like (the flower in the center of the stamper). I trimmed the excess rubber away from the image. Don't be afraid to trim JustRite stamps just like you would any other. As long as you have some grooves on the back of the stamp that will fit into the grooved stamper, you'll be fine!
