I just got a heat gun and so far, only used it with Liquid Applique.
Can anyone explain other things I can use it for? I know I can emboss with it. But I have to get the embossing ink and the powders still. Anything else I can do with it? I have a versamark pad. Can I do anything with that?
Any help would be appreciated.
You can use it to create beautiful stamped candles. Just stamp your image onto tissue paper, cut around it..doesn't have to be right around the image..just a nice close square..then place the tissue onto the candle..cover the image in wax paper and then use your heat gun to melt the tissue into the candle..carefully peel back the wax paper and BRAVO, you have a beautiful candle. I'm sure there is a better tutorial here..check the gallery for inspiration!

Actually, you can use your Versamark pad rather than embossing ink with embossing powders. You can also emboss with pigment inks like Colorbox if you already have them. In other words, you can save on the embossing pad and buy more embossing powder lol.
I also use my heat gun to set inks on nonpourous surfaces or just to speed up drying time.
If you have a craft sheet, you can make embellishments with embossing powders by dumping some onto the craft sheet, heating up the EP so it gooey, and stamping onto it while still warm. Let it cool and then peel off the craft sheet.
Also used to use it to heat and then stamp (either with or without ink) on Almost Leather. Not sure if that product is made anymore, but fun foam, especially the thicker kind, will work just as well. Black or dark brown ink on tan or brown fun foam will give you a leather look.
You can also use a heat gun on Penscore and then press it against different textures, say, the bumpy bottom of a shoe to create your own texture/background stamps. If like it, you can keep it and just make sure you don't reheatand lose the design. If you don't like it, just reheat it and the "design" will be gone and you can reuse it again.

Reason: Add more techniques
I use mine to lightly heat the cut ends of my ribbon. This keeps it from fraying. Also, heat long pieces of ribbon with it and it shrinks up and has a totally different look. I have also wrapped ribbon around a pen and heat it, it makes a spiral ribbon.
You can use them to shrink shrinky dinks too to make charms and things. I've also used it to dry stickles and you get an interesting effect with that.
My DH has used mine on those heat shrink tubes to hold wires and he has also used it for putting shrink plastic on the windows.

Wow, you all have great ideas. Love the idea to use it with candles. As far as using it with versamark, doesn't it dry too quickly? Or does it not matter if the ink or versamark is dry? I have the chalk box inks too.
Thanks a bunch!
I almost exclusively use versamark for embossing. I haven't found that it dries quickly at all. I haven't bought an embossing pad in years!
Honestly, I use my heating gun for melting embossing powder 95% of the time. It's so handy and does it so quickly. I've had mine for at least 7 years, maybe longer without any problem. Probably the best $20 I've ever spent. I can't believe I haven't lost it in countless cross-country moves. It's also just handy to have when I need a quick heat set of stickles or just trying to hurry up and get something to dry.
