Default I'm slowly being sucked in...

to the Copic Craze! I've been resisting for awhile now but I think I'm about ready to try some. I guess what I need to know is the difference between the three types. Is the ink the same between them and just the shape of the marker and size of the nibs different?
What kind do you all have? Does anyone have comparison pics of the different types?

Thanks for the help!!

Shannon, I'm new to Copics also, but I was curious about all the hype, so I bought a few Ciao Copics from Eclectic Paperie. At first, I didn't understand the difference between the alcohol markers and my SU! markers, but after playing around some, I see it. The way the color goes on the paper and blends is different. The Sketch markers are more expensive but there are more colors. However, as a beginner, I was ok trying out the less expensive version. I'm a hobby crafter, so I don't *require* professional caliber markers. As for the air brush, I understand that one is being developed for the Ciao markers, but I don't know when it will be released.

If you are experimenting for now, I would suggest you buy some Ciaos and play with them (Eclectic Paperie has them on sale...I am not affiliated with them, by the way). The big lesson I learned, though, was to buy lighter tones of the colors because I can really play with shading. For example, I have the Violet (V09) and it is a dark purple. I am not skilled enough to understand how to shade with it. However, I LOVE the lighter shades of green and pinks and any of the lighter "earth" tones. They are AWESOME to color with.

OK, apparently I am more enthusiastic about this then I realized! For what it is worth, I will not be buying anymore SU! markers and will instead add to my small Copic collection. I definitely like them better. Have fun!

That reveiw was really indepth... lots of good info! Since I have not used alcohol markers at all, I think I will get a couple Prismas from Michaels and try those first, to see what I can do with them. Maybe I'll get a couple of the Ciao ones from the website listed above and see how the tips work for me.

Thanks for the great info, I don't know how I would make desicions without coming here first!:p

My $0.02 on the deal. I have some of each kind because I bought from different sources and did not realize what I was doing...first time that has ever happened. seriously.

for the fairly small difference in price, I suggest the Sketch markers. They are smaller in diameter and have a nicer feel in the hand. and when you have to store them, It is nice if they are all the same size. They fit together a little better.

Ink-wise...all the same. For a nice color that you don't think about when coloring, pick up a "Skin White" E00. It is just right as a Caucasian skin tone.

Have fun! Hobby Lobby carries a good selection. 40% off coupon or occasional 50% off sale helps!

and there is also a good tutorial on SCS Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

I took a class from Colorin' Katie. She works at the WhipperSnapper Store near my home. She does lovely work! All of the coloring of the WS images as best I know is her work.

Hi,
quick marker question here...can you color with copics directly on your stamp and stamp like you can with water based markers? My guess is that they dry too quickly.... Thanks

NO! They will permanently stain your stamp sort of like a Sharpie would.

There is a tutorial on Christine's blog about using the Copic Ciao's in the airbrush system

I would actually suggest the ciaos. The barrel is pen size and it is economical and can fit in the airbrush system. I used it today in a video tutorial on this post:

Ok, so after reading the above review and reading other thread here on SCS I am totally confused. It looks like the nibs can NOT be replaced on the CIAO markers, Right??? I am desperately trying to figure out which markers to get and the more I read the more confused I get! HELP!

The CIAO marker nibs CAN be replaced. Seriously, just try one or two. Eclectic Paperie (I'm not affiliated, I swear!) has them on sale (but not all colors are available) and they are having other specials because it is their birthday. Alternatively, try Ellen Hutson if you want to try the Sketch. Her prices are the best I've seen for Sketch markers (which are pricier than Ciaos).

Or...find a friend who will share until you decide if it is worth your time. Good luck!
