Default i-magicut Ribbon Cutter

Has anyone seen this new tool? It's advertised as a ribbon cutter AND sealer (so no fraying ribon) which sounds fantastic. It also operates on batteries so pretty convenient. I'm just curious if it will actually work or be a big waste of money. Also what kind of ribbon can you cut/seal? since it uses heat, I'm wondering if some might be too delicate.
acherryontop.com has a video onit so I'm off to check it out

Yes, saw their ad yesterday. It's "on-sale" for $19.99. I think it's a bit pricey. I always try to just overlap my ribbon and then glue a "border" over it on the inside of the card.

A bit of glue on the back side, where you will cut works, too. Let it dry and cut, both ends are sealed - ready for next time,

Oh, Vic, thank you so much for this info. There ARE times when I wish I wouldn't have to roll my ribbon over. Especially the pretty crocheted laces. They can be so costly and each little bit is valuable. Now I can try your hint and not have to worry about fraying.

YVW! It's a trick I've used for years in my sewing/quilting projects.

I guess I should ask if it matters what type of glue to use. Your suggestion, PLEASE?

It doesn't really matter. As long as it dries clear (I think most of our glues do.) Even Mod Podge works. It only takes a tiny amount - I use my finger to apply. It might show through on some sheer ribbons. As with most things - experiment.

I ordered one... I am just too impatient (and messy) to deal with gluing the ends of my ribbon! I'll let you all know if I like it...

Wow, that's another $4 off the price that A Cherry On Top had listed. If I wasn't so desperate to save some $$$ to purchase a Martha Stewart Branch Punch, I might go ahead and pop for one. LOL. Priorities, priorities...hmm.

I like the concept, but don't think I would use this item. I usually cut the tails on my bows after I've already attached it to my card, which would be pretty tough with such a clunky tool.
I'll stick with my sharp scissors and Bic lighter, it's never failed me yet...

It's 14.99 at Scrapbook.com. I think I'll wait though to see other reviews. I will try the idea of putting glue on the back before cutting. Thanks.

I love to burn an aromatic candle while I'm crafting. When I remember to ... I dip the end of the ribbon in a touch of wax.

When I remember to .....

No Bic lighters or candles here... my neighbors caught my house on fire a few years back so no open flames here. It's a very weird feeling to stand in the street and watch your house burn. :(

Hopefully my cutter will be here soon. I can't wait to try it out!

Is this the branch punch you're looking for?

Martha Stewart Crafts Medium Punch - Branch : punches : scrapbooking tools : scrapbooking : Shop | Joann.com

If they are out of stock, sign up for their email alert when it's back in stock. I did that and when I got the email, I was lucky that it was on sale and I had a free shipping coupon. I ended up getting it delivered for a little over $6 (including tax).

I saw on ebay where people were paying over $20 for the punch!!

I absolutely love this tool. It has great precision - I was able to get a double pointed cut (not sure it that's what it's called) on 1/4" ribbon. Perfect.

Can any of you ladies who has this tool list what types of ribbons you've used it to cut successfully? I think I've heard that there are some ribbons it can't cut...

So far I've used grograin and flat. I heard cotton isn't supposed to be used but there is no indication in the instructions. I will try it and see what happens. It's very handy and works well. I was able to get the double pointed cut with 1/4" ribbon. Perfect cuts.

Just got the cutter. Works really great except if one wants short tails on your bow and it is already attached to your card. Hard to guess how much ribbon you need for the bow ahead of time thus you have to cut tails later. Also since I tend to be a bit shakey at times, ribbon is difficult to hold in place for me. For the price I would say it was worth it.

Used mine for the first time other night on grosgrain, it stuck to the ribbon, then the wire came out........... didn't hold it down too long, not sure what happened, got the wire back in, then tried again, wire back out.........put it back in and put it up........
bought mine from Terrikrafts, emailed her, she sent me their number but have not called them..Wanted to watch a video to see tutorial.......for correct procedure..

My ribbon stuck also but luckily did not pull out the wire as I just closed and let heat more. I have had better luck waiting a little longer and the ribbons come out clean.
