I have some of the Marvy Punches, what is the Nestie advantage?
I have the oval and square Marvy punches, 1 plain shape and 1 coordinating scallop shape. I know that having just the one size and the background scallop limits me a good bit, but are there other advantages to using Nesties instead?
I just bought 2 sets of Nesties last week; both of them Label sets, and I love them! Should I get the ovals, particularly, in order to have more options in sixe? Or are there other perks that I am missing?
Yes, yes, get the other shapes in Nesties, especially the Circles and Ovals. You will use them I lot, I promise.
I had the Marvy punches too, in the giga circle, oval, and square, so I held off on the Nesties thinking "I can just use these punches."
Since I got the Nesties my punches are sitting on the shelf gathering dust. I should probably sell them or donate them to another crafter who would use them.
The Nesties are so much more versatile with the different sizes, and are so easy to store compared to the punches.
I just cut squares of corrugated cardboard from a box and attached strips of magnetic tape. Each square holds a whole set of Nesties.
I always have my Cuttlebug handy when I'm making cards, and it's so easy to flip through the Nesties to choose exactly the size and shape I need for an image and mat.
I like to stamp and color my image first, and then center the image in the Nestie and cut it out.

And what about storage! All those punches take up so much room, but I have many sets of nesties stored in cd cases in a fraction of the space. Plus the endless perfect mats.... I love my nesties!
I agree..... nesties are the way to go especially when you go to crops. The weight of the nesties (none) compared to all the punches (massive) was enough to help me decide which way to go.
Not sure if it helps or not, but I have a Wishblade and could easily cut "nesting" shapes but recently tried them out and decided to buy classic ovals (to start!) because of the portability and the fact that they emboss as well as cut.
Love the nesties! Can put them into a basket by my cuttlebug so that they are quick to grab. They take up FAR less room than storing my punches. Much more portable as well.
Thanks ladies for helping decide to take the cuttlebug and nesties plunge. I've been trying to convince myself that I should by nesties instead of more Marvy punches. I will have to show my husband this thread, although he hasn't said anything negative about any of my crafting purchases.
I have both but agree that the nesties are more economical and the range of sizes is great. I need labels one but have large, small and labels two. I store mine on magnetic hooks on a magnetic white board.
I have purchased a lot of sets from Ritz..price is awesome, shipping is fast...very happy camper here. I had completed my collection of all the nesties...until they went and made a new release which is AWESOME..now have to start collecting again....does it ever end...lol? Once you start getting them you will be hooked...
Blessings.
Things you can do with Nesties that you can't do with Marvys: You can cut a window anywhere on your card; you can also emboss the shapes after cutting (using a plumber's gasket kit - cheaper than the charm embossing kit sold by Spellbinders and works just as well); you can emboss frames on your card; plus consider all the shapes that are available that Marvy doesn't have. I love the long and the mega rectangles, plus labels 1 & 2. Plus you are getting 5 - 6 dies for the price you'd pay for one Marvy punch. Another plus: storage! I cut chipboard into 5 X 7 pieces, added a couple of self-adhesive business magnets, added labels, stored one set per piece and they take up an area about 6" deep (I have all the sets in all sizes except for Paisley and the new ones.)

I didn't hear that about Ritz. They had 20 percent off all of February and now again in March. I hope it stays for a little while. I need to get more Nesties. I bought my first set with a 40 percent coupon at Hobby Lobby. I, too, contemplated the difference between buying punches and Nesties. I decided Nesties were better on cost because you get more than one for the same price you might pay for one punch. Plus I love them now and want more...more...more. My Cuttlebug loves them too!

REally they are much less expensive than the single dies. I just did a get well card with the labels two and made a frame to fit the owls I used from Stampin Up. Love that set! REordered labels one from Ritz. They were out of them the first time I ordered.
I did what the previous poster said, made the stamp image and then cut out with the nestie that fit and then cut our a bigger contrasting color nestie for a backgound. Came out really well.
