Good for you! You are going to love your wheels now, I love mine unmounted. I use Aileen's Tack It Over and Over, spread in a very thin layer on the back of mine, or you can peel the foam off and mount on EZ Mount.

I have been meaning to do this for a long time because I have sooooo many wheels both large and small. I just went to this guys ebay page and placed an order for the block. He has 99 more of them....lol.
Blessings.
OK Ladies... I have never heard of anyone unmounting their wheels... Can someone please tell me all the benefits to doing this and exactly how you do it? and then how you use them, etc... I have a whole lot of the wheels and sometimes tend not to use them much, possibly I would use them more if they were unmounted??
I love my unmounted wheels - I use them so much more often! For me, I was very wheel challenged. Couldnt get the hang of it no matter how hard I tried -- so I tried unmounting one and then mounting it on EZ Mount. Loved it so much better using it as a big stamp, that I unmounted all my wheels. Its very easy to do -- where there is a "seam" on the wheel, cut it with an exacto knife (or something like that) and then it comes off very easily. The glue on the back can just be rubbed off ... easy! I know that its not for everyone, but it was definitely for me. My demo LOVES her wheels as wheels, but she is so good at using them - she finds them fast ... I just found them frustrating. Have fun ladies whatever you decide to do!
I couldn't even wheel straight with a wheel guide. Now that they are unmounted I use them so much more. I also had trouble knowing where the wheel would run out of ink. Now I know exactly so no more light and dark images.

I agree. I remove the rubber from the wheels and adhere to EZ mount. I cut the SU Baby Time wheel images into several stamps which gives me more bang for my buck. I rarely make baby cards so I didn't want to invest in a whole stamp set. My other wheels I mounted the whole piece of rubber to EZ mount. I use them more unmounted and it is easier for me to get correct placement on my paper.
I don't get the attraction of unmounting them. I have my hanging on the side of my cd tower, and use them.
I have been considering buying that "friend" wheel in the catalog though, and cutting all the sayings apart. lol
kathy
I bought two of the Friendly Words wheel on my first order from this catalog. One is unmounted in one piece and the other is cut up into separate sayings. Love it!
Another benefit of unmounting the wheels that hasn't been mentioned yet - you can trim the extra rubber from the edges. Some of the wheels really could use a good trim.
Well I have to admit I also am wheel challenged ... So my hubby was watching me try to get a good wheel impression and the more frustrated I got he apparently decided that he would give it a try... Well let's just say he is much better at wheeling than I am... LOL But since he isn't always available when I need something wheeled I think I might take one of my wheels and try this and see how I like it..
Can anyone tell me a name of a place on E-Bay that someone posted about where you can buy the Acrylic Mount .. I think they said it was shipped real fast too!!

If you just want to give it a try, you can also use one of the plates from your Cuttlebug or Big Shot (if you have one) - it is an acrylic block, after all!
I tried using the wheels for the first time a couple of weeks ago. They are fun but I didn't buy any because It just seemed like a pain to have to buy the wheel, the tool, and then the ink cartridges.
I like the unmounted idea! I think it might be easier to clean them when I'm finished if they were unmounted and I could use the ink pads I already have! I may have to take a closer look at them again! LOL
Can someone tell me what the measurements of the stamp is after it's been unmounted? I'm wondering what size acrylic block I would need.
There is a fellow who sells big (long) acrylic blocks on ebay ... I dont remember his name, but I'm sure he's still there his prices were reasonable ... if you are looking to buy one ...
Post #3 has a link to a guy on eBay who sells acrylic mounts that will fit the SU wheels. If you buy the larger (3" wide) mount, you can use it for both the regular and Jumbo wheels.
He also makes custom mounts. His prices are very reasonable and he's a fast shipper.
For those that have unmounted your wheels...
What did you do with the plastic wheel?
I'd hate to throw them away if anybody has found good use for them.
Hey Ladies...I got my acrylic mount from the guy mentioned above. Unmounted all my like 9 boxes or so if both small and Jumbo wheels...wow am I glad I did. They store so much easier and now I WANT to use them. All my wheels fit in TWO of the large stamp and store stamp type boxes. I am so happy. Thanks for all the info on where to get the larger size acrylic block and how to do this. I put all the black wheel things in the recycle bin...no going back now. Not that I would want to.
Blessings.

I umounted all 60 of my wheels a few weeks ago. I found that I NEVER used them as a wheel. Since I make mostly cards, they are perfect to use as backgrounds.
To unmount them, you simply cut them with a craft knife where the seams meet and they peel right off the black plastic wheel. Then I brushed a thin layer of Arlene's Tack It Over and Over on them and let them dry overnight. I stacked them on top of each other in the background stamp sized clam box from SU. They all fit in one box! I am using them more now! Plus I am not limited to colors of my ink cartridges. I DO NOT REGRET IT!!!
OK Laides.. I think you all have given me enough strength to do this.. LOL I guess I am afraid of change or something.. LOL Not that I use my wheels alot because I hardly ever seem to get a near perfect design from them... But now with all the positive comments and my thoughts on not having to buy seperate wheely ink cartridges, instead being able to buy more regular ink pads or maybe even more stamps instead... I am thinking I might use my wheel images a lot more too... Yeah I feel liberated enough that tomorrow I am going to cut free my first wheely... LOL
I did it! I unmounted my wheels last night. It was so liberating! I wonder if women in the 70's felt the same way when they burned their bras.
Hi Everyone! I'm new to posting here, but not new to the site (I've been reveling in all the cards in the gallery and getting totally inspired!)
Thanks SO MUCH for the suggestions to unmount my wheels...I never, ever use them and every time I look at them I feel guilty. I'm arming myself with my X-acto knife tonight and doing the deed!

Have fun cutting them apart! I was able to free up a whole drawer in one of my storage bureau by unmounting my wheels and giving my ink cartridges to a friend.
I have an acrylic block from TAC that is 7 inches long. I also have the Stamp Press from Fiskars that I haven't even taken out of the box. (I won it in a contest.) I think I might give this a try. I can wheel pretty straight, but the uneven ink coverage - even with the cartridge - is very frustrating. Thanks for the inspiration and ideas!
Ok Ladies I just went and did a test run, I unmounted one of my jumbo wheels, mounted it on EZ Mount since I use that on all my SU stamps anyway, inked it up and SCHAZAM!!! it worked like a dream! My concern was how it would look on a 12x12 since I use them (or intended to use them) on scrapbook pages in addition to cards. I had to stamp it twice and it lined up EXACTLY!. Wow, here I go again. First I eliminated my wood blocks, tday I read about SEPERATING yikes! my sentiments from the sets and now this. It's all too much in one day for my matchy matchy brain.
Now how do you label them?

I did all of mine this evening. I have about a dozen. I just wrote the name of each wheel on the back of each "stamp" with a Sharpie too. I put Wacky Tac Repositionable Stamp Mount on the back and stuck them in my unmounted stamps binder.
Thank you for your suggestions, it is so nice when you come back to a post and see that someone took the time to help. I truly appreciate it. I did try a slick writer on the back of the ezmount but it was still kinda schmeary(sp?) maybe I didnt wait long enough. I am going to try the sharpie route. If it comes off on my acrylic block I assume I can clean it off. I just did another dozen while I waited for my photos to load on my computer. Man this is lookin' good ladies! Glad I wasted so much time here yesterday, at least I feel like it wasn't a complete waste of time.
