My cards are already coming apart, less than 2 weeks after I made them. I used Tombow Mono permanent adhesive, carefully aligned my layers as I went, and pressed everything firmly as I was putting them together. The cards are kept laying flat in a box in my living room (not too hot/cold/dry/humid). I just took one out tonight to show DH, and it's falling apart.
I do have the ATG, but haven't used it yet because I wanted to use up the Tombow first. I sincerely hope the ATG holds better.
That is the exact reason why I bought my ATG's. The tombow was not keeping my projects together. :( Once you use the ATG you will never use anything else.
So sorry to hear that all your hard work is coming apart, but like the other posters said, you will love your atg once you start using it. My projects stay together regardless of temperature changes (well, I've never put them in extreme temps) or the weight of the layers or embellishments. Love love love my atg!
I've not had any problems with my mono-adhesive. That's all I use on my cards. Last year, I started making my Christmas cards in January and when I sent them out in November, they were still all together and stuck tight. I wonder what the difference is?
I've had problems with the Mono, too. I switched to Multi and I love it! I've not had a project fall apart since I started using it about 6 months ago.

Quick question. Are you using the tape runner or the liquid glue Mono? I've used the liquid glue (that sticks like crazy), but often times there is a tell-tell bubble where the wet glue was. I'm saving up for an ATG, but it's a big investment for me.
I used to love my Mono adhesive until they "improved" it a couple years ago - now it's awful! I use it to mount UM rubber to acrylic blocks. At least it has some use
I had the same problems with the mono. I love my ATG and have used it for a few years now and it is much cheaper than the mono. I have less stress now, it is so irritating to make a nice card and then have it falling a part 15 minutes after you have made it.
Weird, no issues here at all with my Mono, and I've got some cards in my stash for a couple of years. If I have heavy layers, I'll use a big glue dot in the middle, however, just to be on the safe side. I hear the ATG things are nice, but I just don't want another big clunky tool in my craft area. I really am trying to get back to basics, and there are a lot of other things to get the stuff to stick without an ATG if you don't want it or can't afford it.

Depending on what I'm using it for, I use both. The tape runner is the one I'm having the issues with. The liquid glue works fine, but I can't use it for everything.
Used my ATG last night for the first time, and I could tell a difference immediately. Boy, you better make sure you've got things positioned correctly the first time! LOL
Lisajt, the ATG is referring to the Sctoch ATG 714 tape dispenser, as seen here.
It's a bit pricey to start with, but the refills cost way less per foot than anything else I've found. And boy, does that stuff hold!!!!
I use the mono and I've never had a problem with it holding my layers together. I also like that I can just run to the craft store for a refill I don't have to order one online or anything because I often don't realize I'm low until it's too late!
I heard a while back that every once in a while, a bad batch of adhesive will be produced. The same thing happened to me a couple years back when I was making thank-you cards for my bridal shower. That's the only time I've had a problem with it.

I also learned a few years ago that it also has a shelf life of about six months -- something to think about when you're participating in those bulk buys!

Hadn't heard that before... I find that interesting because in my mind that means it's only going to stick for six months, too:confused:
As far as I know, I haven't had trouble using mono. Well, I take that back. I did an ATC swap recently where I had ribbon mono'd around a square frame and it came undone. I really should have used sticky strip for that. But, no problems on cards. I must say that I do use a lot of it. Not just a bit here and there. Typically I run the mono along the entire length of the card on each side.
I am considering buying the ATG, but don't know if I want such a large handle.. does anyone use the tape without the actual handle? Is it like using the SU sticky strip kinda?
I sold my ATG as I had too much trouble with it with my hands, and I also found it stuck longer than mono, but some of my cards did still start to come apart after a while. I now LOVE Zip Dry, Tombo mono multi, and also Scotch Quick dry. I will never go back to any kind of tape again, other than for ribbon...

^^^Thanks for this, I was wondering whether or not to get that ATG. While it sounds convenient, I have always had the best success with glue. I mean even months later, that paper does not budge! And the glue seals the paper, you couldn't even wedge your xacto knife between the layers with glue once it dries.
subscribing...I, too, am having problems with my cards falling apart after using the mono adhesive. I am looking for an alternative. I love the Scotch Quick Dry and the Mono liquid glue, but they do make my paper bubble. I love the ease of using a runner...are there any others out there? Is the ATC gun hard to handle or to replace refills? TIA-- Jamie

Yep! I use my tape all the time without the dispenser, it's just to big and in the way. And I don't have to buy an adapter for the 1/4 inch rolls of tape.
I just roll it along my project and when I'm done I have a strip of brown liner I just cut off and throw away. It's simular to using sticky strip it's hard to explain but it's easy to use.
I have never had a problem with mono and not sticking. But, I have had mono problems like the tape busting or sticking together when it's only half empty, etc. so wasteful. I only use it in the form of SNAIL when I am demoing. I am so not a fan of buying mono in bulk any more. I purchased an ATG and I love it. I use the 1/4 and even though the gun takes a little getting used to, I love it. I never thought about using the adhesive like a sticky strip??? I'm going to try this, too.

Its $10 for shipping where i've found it online (in canada) and so I want to decide if I'm getting the handle or not... Its $55 for the 714 (1/4" dispenser) and I think $3.75 a roll (minimum 12 roll purchase) for the regular tape and $5 for the acid free gold stuff. I don't want to pay the shipping twice... I gotta make my decision soon, I'm running out of adhesive! LOL
But the cost of the rolls is definately a plus... vs. $5 + for a fraction of the amount of feet you get with the other stuff out there on the market.
Hmm......... Maybe I'll just buy the rolls... I don't think I'll like using that big 'gun'.
The website I found it at was www.nhsmedia.com - its been posted on SCS before... I think you can find it cheaper from other places in the US.
I have never heard of this adhesive, but want to try it using just the roll. Where do you buy it and what size? I just looked at the Mfg website and I'm overwhelmed by choices!

1/4 inch is the most popular size from what I can tell here.
And the 'GOLD' one is acid free if you're making scrapbooks or something. But if you're doing cards, the regular one I think is what alot of people are using and its a bit cheaper..... I'm just going by the research I've done, others might have another opinion.
I believe it originates from framers - so I'm not really sure why the regular one (vs. the GOLD) is not archival... anyone know?
Forgot to mention that I also use mounting squares on all four corners [was an avid picture taker[?] when I was younger and put them into 'scrapebooks' the one you used to use for paper clippings - you older girls will know what I'm talking about lol] then use glue in the middle and mono along the sides. Whew, trust me it don't move and sometimes a little glue pen in an area that's hard to 'put down' or a glue dot. I have a friend who once need a card in a hurry and thought she would incorperate some of my into her's - nope couldn't remove anything! Trust me I hate when a card falls apart and mine won't
I also use the ATG for everything. I only use mono when I'm doing something small...maybe a circle i've punched or something like that. I figure that is the way I'll use it up!

IMO, if you are using mono multi and you are getting bubbles or warps of any kind, you are using too much. I have been using it exclusively for over a year now, and have never had an issue. Just squeeze lightly and spread quickly. The slower you go, the more time the glue has to run out! JMO Keri
I have used mono quite a bit on my scrapbooks and cards and not had a problem. However, if your mono is not sticking (and it should) it's time to send an e-mail to Tombow and tell them about your problem so that they can send you replacement adhesive and earn your loyalty back ;)
