After 'heming & hawing' over the Copic craze for awhile and unsure of how/where to buy them, I decided that I *needed* them for Memorial weekend as we are leaving for a RV camping/fishing trip next Thursday and it would be fun to play with them in a quiet setting...........so,
after reading this thread, I decided to purchase the papercrafting set of 36 sketch markers from iCopic.com YESTERDAY at about 3pm and hoped that they arrived before we left. They arrived TODAY before noon!! Granted, I live in So. CA and they are based in So. CA, but still that's awesome service!
THEN, last night I 'won' a set of 36 sketch markers (ebay) and got to choose my own colors (out of 72 choices), so I spent last night choosing colors to go with the 36 I had purchased from icopic. They will ship Monday, so I may even get those before Thursday, too!
I'm going to stamp a bunch of images to have ready for playing!
Thanks for this thread...what a great enabling group you are!
I just have to read up on the stamp ink/paper to use now! LOL
I just went to a Copics 101 class with Sally Lynn MacDonald (http://www.inkyheart.typepad.com/)....a Copics trainer. She made a point that I never noticed....(and probably never would have at this point since I no longer look at sets of Copics)....BUT....sets are not really sets, they are just a collection of markers. What I mean is this...when you use Copics to color with, you want (as Sally put it) your favorite color and 2 friends to go with it....a highlight color and a shadow color.
I am just going to say B95 is my favorite color...so I would want to use B93 and B97 to go with it to highlight and shadow my B95 (those are markers that I have so that is why I have chosen those colors). Sets do not come with a family group of colors like this in them. I started looking at them and they may have 2 in a grouping but not 3 and not usually 2 colors together in number sequence.
So, to make my short answer very long, unless you can pick your own markers in a custom set, it would be best to buy them individually so you can buy them in sequence.
Hope your Copic search has been a good one. Be careful they are addicting and awesome to work with! Clear and Simple Stamps sells sketch markers both individually ($6/each) and in sets of three ($15). The reason they are packaged as a trio, is to provide a way to build your sets the way you like with the addition of the shadow and highlight color to create blends, shadows and other effects to your stamp art images. Sketch markers also offer a bit more selection in available colors, but test out the style you like the best whether it be Ciao, Wide, Copic or sketch and build from there. And to further be an enabler {smiles} definitely try out the Spica Glitter pens they are great to have in your stash too.

Or is it bets to buy them seperately? Like to hear your imput on this. Thanks
I buy in sets from Period Style. You have the option of customizing sets of both markers and refills, and they have free shipping on sets. Great to do business with and they ship fast.

I buy singles based on the light, med, dark color selection. I color them on an empty CD case and wrote the color number with sharpie next to the colors. It's been working really well for me and I don't feel the need to add more colors.
fast forward the summer...........I have been buying individual markers. I like to pick out my own colors and don't need all the grays that come in the sets. I have every color that HL sells so I won't be using them anymore as a source. I buy Sketch's when I can but when I am at a show and they only have the Ciao then that is what I buy. I am not convinced yet that I need every color either some colors are almost identical.

In clusters for blending....... not a set....... if you dont have a store near you with all the colors, then I suggest you use what Flourishes has put together....... this resource has helped me so much:
I am brand new in the Copic family. I bought a set of 24 from Ellen Hutson. I emailed them to ask for suggestions and they recommended buying 24A if you can afford it. I am glad I bought a set to get started with. I thought about buying a few at a time, but there are so many colors how would you know where to start? Now I can buy individual ones to fill in what I need. Their mail service is really great and fast.
