How to ? from SU catty pics

In the new SU catalog, pg 15 the playful pieces hostess set has the swirled square stamp and you can see in the picture of the 'Newlyweds' card right above, that the cake appears to be made from the 'tree pieces' but with the swirled pattern on it. Any guesses on how that is done? Do you stamp the swirled stamp w/ ink, then stamp on the trapezoid (I think that's what that shape is called) tree pieces, huff & then stamp on the paper? Or... is it something trickier with Versamark, a Brayer or something else? Same thing is done w/ the picture of the tree over to the left (on page 14), each section is alternating solid & dotted pieces. Thank you for any input.

It looks like the stamp was inked then "kissed" with an uninked stamp to remove the ink and leave behind a pattern. I'm guessing that this particular pattern was done with the tiny stamp that looks like an ornament top and hook but you could use any small swirl/flourish motif like the one in "Priceless." Be sure to clean the stamp after each "kiss" so in continues to pick up ink and doesn't get smeary.
