Question How much in US $$$ is a cuttlebug (Jun 2011)

Hi all! Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this? I was'nt sure if I should post it here or on the cuttlebug thread but not being very forum savvy I was'nt sure if this question would appear at the top of that thread! Anyway here goes my question.........

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much and where is the best place to buy a cuttlebug and dies etc? I am fortunate enough to be heading to Orlando Fl on vacation this Tue (yay!!) and having so far resisted the lure of any die-cutting gizmo's have decided to take the plunge!

Also when you buy the machine itself does it come with all the "bits" necessary to just open the box and get going? ie: plates etc? What I don't want is to fly back to the UK and realise I will have to start spending more (and waiting!) Finally, how much should I expect to pay for embossing folders etc?

As a regular visitor to FL I have long been signed up for discount coupons for all the biggies, Mikes, Jo-anns etc and have them all printed off ready to go so any advice available would be MORE than appreciated!

Thanks so much in advance x

Hi, the list price of a Cuttlebug is US$90.0. You can get it on-sale 30% most of the times at Joann's and Michaels. Do not feel bad if it's not on-sale during your vacation time in Fl. Use the coupon and you can get 40% (Actually I always wait for the item not to be on sale to use coupon). It comes with 1 plate A, 2 Bs and 1C. I would buy another plate B since it gets beaten-up easier than most. It does come with samples of embossing folder and die cut but it's better to invest in full size ones.
Have a great time shopping in Fl

Thanks so much for such a helpful answer! And for taking the time to post your maiden response! I REALLY appreciate it. At todays exchange rate the equivalent price in GBP would be $110 before tax so if I do manage to use one of my coupons (i've got 40% & 50%) I will be making a whopping saving!! I went a bit crazy last year and over did my punch buying so this year I have promised my dh I will be a bit more restrained! LOL! Trouble is with the coupons and such cheap prices compared to here in the UK it is VERY difficult to say no! Thanks so much again, I can't wait now! x

I just purchased my Cuttlebug from Joann's in January, and it did NOT come with a C plate. It included 1 A plate, 2 B plates, and 1 5x7 embossing folder. I had to purchase the C plate separately. Just be sure to read the package for contents when you purchase, so you know what you are getting!

Thanks so much for that Laura! It is a massive help knowing exactly what to look out for in the box & what I need to get the thing actually up and running! And as I usually buy the bulk of my crafty "stuff" at J0-anns this is SOOOO useful to know!

the "new" design bugs (white/cream body with green accents) is the box that doesn't come with a C Plate. The older design (green body with beige accents) does come with a C plate. I believe they changed manufacturers when they updated the cuttlebug and in the process changed what was included in the package.

Wow, this was useful... could you tell us what are the basic mats/spacers, etc that you require with the cuttlebug. Anything besides the A,B and C?

But embossing folders & dies like nestabilities are much cheaper and SO MUCH lighter than punches! They will certainly take up way less luggage space & weight!
Don't forget that other companies' (as in, sizzix etc., not just provocraft) embossing folders will fit in the 'bug.

It really depends on the dies and embossing folders you will be using. I use the Spellbinders Nestabilities dies, so I purchased the Spellbinders Tan Embossing Mats to use in my Cuttlebug with those dies. There are also the long spacer mats you can purchase if you are going to use the 12" border embossing folders.

I mainly plan on using the Cuttlebug with embossing folders since i intend to get the Silhouette SD for all my cutting needs. So any and all embossing folders that are nice and versatile, i am going to hoard! lol.

I'm hoping for embossed patterns.... so i read about the fiskars plates usage in the cuttle bug....are the nestabilities folders just as/or better defined in embossing?

I am happy to have finally purchased my cuttlebug for 45$ with the Michaels 50% off coupon for this week!

The Nestabilities are not folders, they are metal dies for cutting shapes (circles, scalloped circles, ovals, etc.)

If you are only planning on using the Cuttlebug for embossing folders, I don't think you will be needing the "C" plate... that adapter plate is made for die cutting.

Great deal on your Cuttlebug! Have fun!

Nestabilities have Impressabilities which are really thin, light metal plates for embossing - you will need a tan embossing mat from Spellbinders to use them. I have gotten nice embossing from my Cuttlebug + Nestabilities/Impressibilities, however when my bug dies I'm looking at a Vagabond or Grand Calibur as they will suit my needs better. Have fun in Fla and remember that both you and the hubs can use a coupon each at the very least.

@ Leelulumpkin - I see Hobby Lobby is in Fla it is definitely worth a visit (even the shabby one near me is better than the shabby Michaels near me!).

Have fun and have a lovely holiday.

thanks for the info! i'll look out for the impressabilities folders! and i have been hoarding all the coupons i can, so i do intend to use them each week!
would you happen to know what brands cut and emboss at the same time? and if there are any more embossing plates i should look out for other than fiskars and spellbinders?

i'm in tx right now actually, and moving to arizona next week. there is a hobby lobby here, although i dont think there was a better sale there!
