In my opinion you can never have too many colors. You'll use some more than others and need to replace them sooner, but it's good to have them all there.
If you were thinking of buying a set, I might say you could go for less than the full set to save money, but now that you have them you may as well feel happy that you'll probably rarely run into a situation where you don't have a color you need. (I say "rarely" because I have the full set of Faber Castell watercolor pencils - 120 count - and there are colors I wish were in there, so you never really have EVERY color.) ;-)!

You can never have enough pencils, water colour, wax and ink. Ahhhh pencil heaven. The hardest bit is when they only come in sets and there are always a few colours that you love to use more than others. What do you do to replace those colours if they only come in sets!!! Then when you have all the different types of pencils you start to wonder 'which brand is better'. All of mine are Derwent and sometimes I find my mind drifting into what if......
If you have the room to store them, I think, within reason, you can never have too many colors of anything! I feel the same way about pencils, markers and colored cardstock. And yes, my room is packed to the gills!

I actually bought a whole set even though I had a set of 48 and a 72. There are some duplicate colors and I would have gotten a larger tin but it is a long story...
Thanks people...I feel better. I have a "go big or go home" mentality. If I find a t-shirt or sweater I like...I will buy it in all the colors. I have all the Copics, distress markers, Marvy markers...need I say more.

After starting my coloured pencil journey with a set of 48 pencils, I quickly realised that there were so many gaps in the colour range, that I needed a bigger set. I have several sets of pencils now and for all of them I bought the biggest set possible. My set of Prismacolor pencils has 132 pencils (originally 120 but I bought 12 more colours that were released after my initial purchase). You won't regret having a large set as there are still gaps in the range.

You are a gal after my own heart! I do the same thing with clothes, buy every color if the price is right and I like it. Lately I've branched out with shoes, too. Not buying lots of colors, but getting two pairs alike if they're a bargain, and I really, really like them.
I think I'm really getting set in my ways - I no longer shop, I just restock.

You know what I think its a great idea that if you like something you get it in more than one colour. Nothing worse than only getting one, finding it was so comfortable or you really really feel beautiful in it and nooooooooo there are no more available
Just wanted to clarify that I had the 48 and then bought the 72, then found it a lot cheaper elsewhere but had already opened it so bought it cheaper and returned the unopened one to the original vendor. I hope that wasn't too naughty. I compared the packaging on both and they were identical. If I hadn't already used the 72 I would have bought the larger set cheaper but couldn't do both. Lesson learned. Shop around before opening a product!
I have them all. I have had them for a couple years and never used them.....bad girl....perhaps soon because i want to color on kraft cardstock. I have seen several beautiful cards like that.
Blessings.

I made the same mistake... My 48 pencil set does not have grays! Unbelievable! Now I am waiting for a good deal to get the 132 pencil set. After the shock horror of not having grays, I learned my lesson and when I bought my Derwent Inktense pencils, I decided to get the full set. I want all my kids home... ;)
I don't own many of these, but I have started collecting the Spectrum Noir pencil crayons. They are designed to coordinate with their alcohol markers, and I believe there are 4 sets of 32. Although I'm not positive about that last number.

Oh yes, me TOO! It made my day reading this! I thought I was just quirky! But you know, I have never regretted shopping this way. In the past, I used to say: "I wish I had bought a 2nd one of......" which is why I started shopping this way I had a good laugh at the "re-stocking"

I reviewed these on my blog - there are 5 sets of 24.
Honestly, I would be happy to wear a "uniform" everyday. Don't get me wrong, I would like an attractive uniform but it doesn't bother me to pretty much wear the same thing every day like it does some people.
And I would be delighted to own and use more pencils --- well TBH any coloring medium. I love color.

I always say with color pencils you need a full set. A lot of coloring mediums you can blend colors so less is more. Color pencils more is more. I write this tip from an art perspective and not consumer enable perspective. Seriously, when working with color pencils it's better to have more colors than less.
And lets be honest, if you have duplicates and are in the zone and the "lead" keeps breaking then it is great to be able to keep creating and just deal with nuking the offender later.
Because the Prismacolor premier are wax based, if the "lead" breaks often you can microwave it on high for about 10 seconds and then let it sit for a while. Only do one at a time. It basically remelts the "lead" together but it can make the paint on the outside of the pencil blister.
I got so tired of nuking my pencils. Colored pencils are my favorite coloring medium but my biggest pet peeve is constantly nuking them to fix the leads. I got a butane lighter (Dollar Tree kind for lighting candles) & I use that instead. It works really great. I also changed pencil sharperners from a manual one to an electric one. When I do use a manual sharpener I use the kind made for eyeliner pencils. Hope that helps somebody.
As for sharpeners...I have a Boston model 18. I've had it at least 20 years and I keep it clean and oiled. I have never had any trouble sharpening the prismas on it.
But, it's old and definitely not the "current model". Funny thing is that there's lots of ebay and amazon listings for this sharpener and the parts.
I have more than 132 Prisma pencils, I'm not sure yet of the total.
Does anyone have a chart listing all the colors? The only chart I found on the prisma website only lists 120 colors.
I'm attaching a file that I used to make my samples. I printed these 3 pages on cardstock then punched each color with an SU oval punch. On the back side I colored that color...light to heavy. If I counted right there's 158 colors here. You could also color on the right side and leave the sheets whole.

I haven't read all the replies yet, so forgive me if I am repeating LOL..BUT you can buy those grays in open stock from Blick's ( and maybe a few other stores..not sure) and not but the larger set. UNLESS you want the bigger one...which the pencil hoarder in me totally gets LOL
I have a lot but not all of them. I've never been fond of buying sets because there are always colors I don't use. I bought mine over time as I wanted a specific color and I don't feel the need to buy more. I've learned over time that sometimes more is just more.

Awesome!
