I love the way it looks wound on a clothesline clip-thingy  put into a cookie jar of the sorts but how practical is this? I'm a very visual person but I also like things to be "hidden away". Clear as mud?
So how do you store your ribbon in a practical, space saving kinda way but still so that you can see what you have?
I have ribbon that is on wood spools, they are thin and very nicely wrapped so I put them in a jar I got at the $ store. My larger ribbons are in ribbon boxes that I bought at Target last year. The tail ends of the ribbon stick out a hole so I can easily see what I have there too. I love the jars on my shelves, it makes it look nice and neat.

I use the Cropper Hopper embellishment boxes and ribbon cards for the ribbon I got off a share years ago. For my spools, I use the Cropper Hopper ribbon spool holders. Got them from JoAnn.com. HTH
I use the Organized Essential Crafter's Carry All Tote. It has 5 plastic organizers and many outside pockets. Best yet it's on sale for 9.99 at J's til the 25th of Aug. I bought mine at ACM for the same price. I also store in there beads, brads, eyelets and other stuff. Very handy.
I bought some metal gridded boxes designed to throw stuff into on your desk. I got them from target. I put the ribbon inside and thread one piece through one of the grids. If the ribbon isn't on a spool, I tie one end of the ribbon through the other side onto the grid.
I am going to hang these up on my wall. I've organized them by colors and they look nice. I will take a picture eventually and post on my blog but I'm not there yet!!

If you look in my gallery or on my blog, you'll see that I have "cracker jars" which I purchased at Target after seeing Martha Stewart use them for something.
I have all of my ribbon (except my SU big spools - which I store in the SU holders) in craft ziploc bags. Punched a hole in the top and put in color families (blue, green, red, etc) on big binder clips.
I store the clip of bags in drawers under my table.
It knocked my storage space to a fraction of what it was - and I can see at a glance what will match whatever I am working on.
Love it!

I use the snap top craft storage from Target...there is a ribbon holder where you stick the tail out of the side...I just store my SU big rolls in there, it is the perfect height. I also have a bunch of ribbon in jars.
I have 2 ribbon holders from Craft Locker. I hung them high on my wall above my stamp area. You can see a picture in my gallery. In the picture I only had one but have since added another one that I got @ 1/2 off...

I use gutters (yes, gutters). They hang on the wall underneath my cabinets. I didn't want anything on my shelves. I also use gutters to hang my punches...LOVE THEM! You can buy them in 10 ft sections for about $5. I had my husband cut them into 2.5 ft sections.
I asked my DH to make my ribbon holders and I think he said the whole thing cost $2.
He took a 3/4 in. peice of wood cut in a 5 inch by 5 inch square, that lies flat and a skinny dowel rod comes straight up of the flat piece. I sit four of them on top of a file cabinet and they can hold around 20 rolls a piece.
Leftover short pieces go in a class canister I got at IKEA.

I have mine in boxes I purchased at IKEA. They're not clear, and not visible. But, they are stored on one of my shelves in my studio and I can easily grab the right color box and sort through to find what I'm looking for.
Storing my ribbon in these boxes (I store lots of other things in the same style boxes too) has helped to make my studio appear cleaner. Of course, there's still LOTS of room for improvement.
It depends on the ribbon. For spooled ribbon, I have all my SU! ribbon in the ribbon organizers we sell. For other spooled ribbon, I have two lengths of plastic coated link chain that I suspended from the drop ceiling in my stamping area, then I inserted dowels in the links and I put the ribbon on the dowels. It works great for ribbon that I don't take out of the house or off the dowel.
For non-spool ribbon I started buying the ribbon cards from Cropper Hopper and winding them on those and using the embellishment organizers from Cropper Hopper. It's already reducing the amount of space taken up by ribbon on cards. I'm also winding my fibers on the fiber bobbins and putting all these together...it's great to see them all at a glance!
I also have some of the ribbon that Michael's sells on wooden spools; those I store in a canning jar on one of my shelves; looks very pretty that way!
