Default How do I make my own glitter brads?

I bought some Doodlebug Sugar Coated Glitter intending to make my own glittery like brads, but now I can't find any tutorials on how to glitter them up!

Does anybody have a tutorial or have ideas? I want to waste as little glitter as possible, and I just know if I try making them BEFORE getting some good ideas, I am going to be making a HUGE mess!

TIA for your help!

Julie

You can try liquid glue (Scotch and Tombow both make it). Put a layer of the glue on top of your brad and sprinkle the glitter in it. Another way...mix some glitter with embossing powder and dip your brad into a Versamark pad and then dip in your mix and heat emboss (I change the colors of brads all the time doing this but haven't tried mixing the glitter with it but I don't see why it wouldn't work that way). HTH!

Do you just glitter the tops of the brads or the whole brad? Is there some kind of glue spray or does the glue you mentioned dry fast & not clumpy?

I'd rub a little Crystal Effects, or a product similar to it, on the top of the brad and then dip it in the glitter.

If it were me, I'd want the brads to be smoother and shinier than the Doodlebug glitter brads... I don't like how they're rough and the glitter can rub off... just like their glitter cardstock. So, I'd try putting one or two coats of Crystal Effects on top of the glitter afterwards, in hopes that it would seal the glitter onto the brad and make it smoother and shinier. It's just an idea I came up with after I bought Doodlebug glitter for myself... I haven't actually tested it yet.

Dude! The Versamark/heat embossing trick is awesome! I have a huge pile of plain silver brads and I was thinking I wanted to go get some copper ones for a project. Versamark + copper embossing powder is exactly what I needed, now I don't need to make a trip to Michaels. Thanks! :-D

I tried this technique with a glittery embossing powder, and it looked really cool, too.

Those are great ideas! I usually just heat my brad, dip in clear ep and then dip it in glitter and heat...my way sounds like it's more time consuming, lol!
