not from my gun but from me I have the Marvy Heat Gun and it blows my embossing powder everywhere. So I bought a Darice-being told it just heats doesn't blow!!! Oooooo It blows worse than the Marvy.
Does anyone have a heat gun that they use for embossing that doesn't waste all their embossing powder? I know there is one out there and I thought the Darice was it. Help--I have 50 cards to do by the first week in Oct.
Thanks Bunches
Jules
Are you using something like Versamark first? then pouring the embossing powder over it?
I have a Stampin' UP! heat gun and have never had a problem with it blowing embossing powder anywhere. I had purple heat gun for years, I can't remember who makes it.. it worked fine, but I got a good deal on a new SU one so I gifted the purple one to a friend. I think that they sell it at Hobby Lobby and it might be the brand you mentioned, but I don't ever remember it blowing the powder either. Pam

Also make sure that you let the gun run a little bit (aimed away from your project and people!) to heat up first. You can also try heating from the underneath your cardstock.
I think I am going to try and get a SU heat gun. Yes, I am using either embossing ink or my inkjet computer and embossing paper but then after I shake off the excess powder I don't want what is is left on my image to blow away and make little specs on my card. So I've been trying to find a gun that doesn't blow hot air, just distributes heat.
Does heating the card from the backside really help that much?? If it does, I would think that this is going to be the greatest thing since pb&j :p .
I'm not a big fan of the embossing buddy because I tend to always have that powder residue left on my card even after I shake the excess buddy off. This is so unnerving especially when it comes to say uummm.. Black cardstock and silver embossing powder.
So I think I'll try this little trick WITH one of the guns I already have (no use wasting gas taking it back to the store if this trick does the trick )
You can use a swiffer cloth to remove the excess powder from the embossing buddy too.
As for the heat tool, I have the Darice gun, and the EP doesn't blow off. I hold it a few inches away.
I am looking for the company right now. It's a special paper that you inkjet print on then let your image set for a minute before adding your powder then color inside the lines with your inks, markers, chalks, or pencils.
Be back in a minute k
Well I just called the two companies that I ordered the inkjet embossing paper from and the manufacturer no longer makes it because of the new printers and the faster drying ink. :(
So what I did was I took my LASER paper and ran it through my inkjet and then embossed and it WORKED:p It's because the inkjet ink will not dry on laser paper so Instead of worrying about the smudgies I will just use my laser paper. Oh well the regular inkjet embossing paper was pretty expensive so there was really no room for mistakes, or waste.
I had trouble with blowing the embossing powder off from the cardstock when I first started. My friend showed me to hold the heat gun a little further away, just until the powder begins to melt. Then you can move it closer.
P.S. This Valentines Swap is for any of you going on the October Stamp & Cruise.
generally, they blow a little.. but shouldn't blow that bad.
i don't know if it's an option, but i LOVE the heat tool by Stampin'Up! i've used it in classes and things like that, and it's awesome.
Another one for the SU one. Had a hairdryer style one for years and found recently it is not heating evenly, so invested in the SU. So much better that any other I have used - been stamping for a long time and used lots!
I have the Marvy one, and have never had any trouble with the EP blowing off. I'd follow the others' suggestions to maybe make sure the gun is good and hot before you use it, and also to hold it a little further away (or behind). Good luck!
