I think I'm on to something! A while back someone suggested using styrofoam pieces to make Flower Soft. You grate the pieces against each other to yield white fluffy stuff. I did that - it worked, but was too tiring.
Yesterday I was at a Craft shop and saw some very finely granulated fake snow (for Christmas use).
Well, I brought it home, took some fake snow, added a drop of alcohol ink, fluffed it up - and FLOWER SOFT! It works. Of course my hands were dye stained, but the range of colors you can make is endless.
I put each color in little baggies, and now I have a very large stash of Flower Soft.
If this methed has been suggested before, and I'm being redundant - my apologies. Just wanted to share.

thanks...i think i could try this...any specific brand of fake snow?
No specific brand. There were about 4 different bags, so I rustled them around until I thought I had found the one with the finest granules. Cheap too. The bag was $2.49 and should last me a lifetime.
And yeah, like I said before, I had tried grating the syrofoam balls together, and it worked ok.....but too much work.

I use the stuff made for model train scenery. Comes in all sorts of colours in a very large bottle (at least 2 cups or more) for less than $10. Cdn. I tried the styrofoam grating thing but it was a lot of work for what I got.
Gonna have to check that out. I was telling my dh that I would love to try this stuff, but it is tough to justify $3-4 for a little container of the stuff and I would want all the colors!

That's a terrific price for Flower Soft. I paid $5.95 just last week, for the Polar White to make snow, but I won't do that again. Before inventing new products, I would wish for improved old products. To pay $9 for a Versafine ink pad that arrives dry just incites fury! Sure I can return it, but I'm tired of returning products that were good before they got old and more expensive. AND I'm tired of manufacturers who won't fess up to having sent their production overseas where the equipment and supplies change the outcome of the product.
How do you get away paying $5.95 for polar white? Thank your lucky stars you don't live in the Great undersupplied White North!...$9.95 last week in the local scrapbooking store. Now you know why I am always looking for alternatives! LOL

Sorry, I led you astray. Regular Flower Soft here is $4.95, still a terrible price if you ask me. But Polar White came with a special glue I probably did not need and was $9.50 plus shipping, so in my mind the FS was $5.95 and the glue was $3.50. Did your FS come with glue? When I ordered I was in a hurry so I hadn't noticed that it came only with glue or I probably wouldn't have ordered it.
My first choice for snow on cards is still Stickles Stardust because the card isn't still shedding "snow" once it's dry. AND I paid only $1.78 each bottle, last time I bought. Glue deteriorates fairly swiftly, making the "snow" flat, so I've stopped buying it in large quantities when I find a good price. I seldom use more than 2 or 3 bottles on Christmas cards.
I posted a response earlier and it doesn't show up now. Oh well... Just wanted to say that I happened to do a blog post today on this very subject. If you're interested, I have some pictures and price comparisons for real & fake flower soft in the post. The link to my blog is in my signature.
